Hi everybody, and Hapy New Year!

Can somebody tell me if 2 500 $ CDN (that's roughly 1 350 eur.) would be a reasonnable price for a Yamaha GranTouch? I do not have further info ont the instrument, but the seller, who is a merchant, says it's "like new" and the pictures show a like-new instrument...

Thanks!

Which GranTouch? GT1, GT2 or GT7?

GT1 and 2 are basically the same except that GT2 has an opening lid (which seems like an obvious thing for it to have but strangely the GT1 didn't open at all).

GT7 is in a full 5' baby grand case.

The action on GT1 and 2 are the same The action is the reason the buy one - maybe to control software - although the onboard sound is acceptable.

If, and it's a big if, it is indeed in "like new" condition and is in perfect working order I think the price is very good. It is well worth it.

Like new? You mean just driven back and forth to church on Sundays?

Grab a key in the middle of the keyboard, see how much it moves from left to right, and compare that movement with keys at the extreme of the keyboard to have an idea of how much play there is.

You can't check the wear on the 'hammers', but you can still have an idea of how much it's been played.

Thank you so much, EssBrace and Dave! The cover opens indeed (saw it on the photo), but I cannot go and take a look at it on site, because the seller is quite far from home (he: Ontario, Canada; me: Quebec). I can have it delivered for a fair price, but I'll have to take the chance -- a 2 500 $ chance... You think this would be foolish?

Thanks,

Luc

The general rule of thumb, never buy a piano without first playing it.

I believe the GranTouch 1 was introduced in 1996 and the GranTouch 2 - the one with the lid that opens was introduced later. Perhaps someone here can shed more light on this.

I'd find out who owned the piano before the merchant acquired it. Was it owned by a professional pianist ... or not?

For not all that much more you could own a brand new N1.

This is your decision but I wouldn't buy it without first playing it.

Sounds like wise advice, Dave. And what do you think would be a good price for a N1 (in Canada or the USA)?

Without knowing its age or knowing how much it's been played, I couldn't say. The dealer I bought my N3 from gave me an excellent price for my GranTouch 1, he gave me €3,500 sight unseen ... and my GranTouch had seen a lot of playing; I had the action worked on several times.

What kind of guarantee is the dealer giving? Three months? Six months? One year? ... no warranty?

The price you mentioned seems low by comparison but regardless, I still wouldn't buy it without first playing it.

It might be a great bargain but the final decision is yours.

Thanks. Guess I'd better drop this deal.

Would you happen to know anything about Kawai AT14 Anytime's silencing mechanism and sampling? (14 years old, the lady took beginner's lessons for 2 first years, has been sitting there doing nothing since.) (The piano, not the lady... I hope!) :-P

Ask Kawai James or start a new thread asking about this. Good luck!
