Hi, I am just reading some thing about the piano and I thought I should share all these general things with my friends, so must keep in mind all these things when You go to buy a Piano, "test out different piano brands, styles, sizes, and ages to appreciate the different timbres, key weights, and levels of quality among them, never buy a piano without first having played and inspected it". so what you think what you should know before buying a PIANO.

I think you need to consider your needs first. What sort of room do you have? Can you practice endlessly without bothering others? What performance level are you and based on that what are your needs? Has your research given you some ideas for starters? One piece of advice, do not rush into it. You'll know when you've found a good match.

Personally I would add to that digital vs acoustic pianos. Although I love acoustic pianos I myself switched to digital as it has many advantages. Portability (moving house), no need to tune, recording functions, layering other instruments and the ability to use headphones etc. Also higher end digital pianos (£2k+) normally allow you to heavily modify the piano spund (useful if playing different styles or moods of music)

Digital pianos/keyboards with weighted keys are about $600 in Canada. Easy to move, easy to play 24 hours a day. Not everyone realizes that learning to play the piano takes at least 1 to 2 hours a day every day. It is a huge commitment, unless you love it then it is an awesome experience. Additionally, if you have a teacher and the time and responsibly of having a lesson properly prepared may take more than 2 hours a day. An acousted piano is awsome but buying one that is good shape, keep tuned is a huge "heavy" possession to have as a beginner. If you work all day on a computer, do you really want to go home everyday and sit on a piano bench for 2 hours after dinner? - and then get ready for bed?
