Do you have a piano piece which, being a tad difficile, you simplify it yourself, just to make it flow better?

Because we don`t all have the time/intellect/fingers to do perfect . . .

1). This should be posted in the Adult Beginners Forum. Assuming the poster is an adult.

2). I wasn't aware that compositions could be infected by C. deficile. It certainly would cause a severe diarrhea of excess notes and should be treated. Surgical removal of the excess might be warranted.

Difficile is an Italian word wink

I just simplified Downton Abbey theme blush
Octaves in the RH and huge arpeggios in the LH was too much for me, so I trimmed the LH chords a bit.

I`ve requested this be shifted to the appropriate section. But I might have got that wrong, too . . . .heh heh

"Assuming the poster is an adult."

Assume nothing, my friend! It`s safer . . .

"Surgical removal of the excess might be warranted."

Without an anaesthetist . . as long as it plays/sounds better.

I simplify arrangements all the time so that I can make a go at playing them.

It doesn't even have to be difficult pieces. Simplifying is a useful skill for sightreading. I remember in learning to play hymns, I was advised that if I couldn't catch all the chords at once, I should concentrate on getting the bass and melody lines in; tenor and alto a bit more dispensable.

"tenor and alto a bit more dispensable."!

There was one poor bugger in our church choir. Nice fellas he was, but he was a tenor; not his fault of course, he drew the wrong straw. I played 3 outa the four parts . . guess who was left floundering like a beached whale . . . ! I laugh to think about it! And my imperfections were laid bare . .

I simplify by playing the melody line with right hand. Then adding some notes with left hand if necessary.

So do I. I use the free open source MuseScore program to revise and print out charts. Though usually I'm punching up the oversimplified ones from WikiFonia, rather than simplifying.

+1 for MuseScore. Amazing application! Also useful to write down transpositions.

Another +1 for MuseScore. I've used it to simplify scores, then add back notes as I progressed.
