This custom search works much better than the built in one and allows searching older posts.

If there have been previous threads on this topic, please excuse this (and direct me there) question. My advanced searches were fruitless. So far, the pieces that seem to really excite my young men (7 to 12) are the Tempest (Faber), Dragon Hunt, (Faber) Harry Potter and Star Wars music. Can anyone recommend level 2 up to and including intermediate pieces that are exciting but not too advanced? Thanks. Christopher Goldston's "Night Train", www.susanparadis.com for some fun tunes for level 1-2 (Spy bot, Dragon, Chasing the Moon, others, go there and take a look, my boy students love these). Also: Home Run Harry (level 2 A Faber sheet music), There's Nothing Like a Circus Faber 2A sheet, Melody Bober's Midnight Escapade (FJH music) for intermediates, and Timothy Brown's Into the Night (intermediate, FJH music).

I really enjoy Ogg the Caveman (every student I have, boy or girl, has loved it that has played it) and Kevin Olson's My Kind of Music series. I tend to try out jazz with boys, and I have found that the more recognizable the classical, the more boys tend to like it. I've been surprised by how open to learning classical music most of my male students have been.

Have you checked out Tim Topham's blog? He did a series of posts about music for boys that could be really helpful. http://timtopham.com/I find most boys absolutely love Christopher Norton's music as well.

Try the Alfred Premier Piano Course, Pop and Movie Hits, levels 2A and 2B. They are wonderful.
Martha Mier's writing really appeals to this age group. I would also try some of her collections. You can't go wrong with her Jazz, Rags, and Blues books.

AZN, I've tried blues and jazz, rag, but most of my students aren't interested! I like Martha Meier and have some of her boooks. I will check out the Alfred premier hits books you mentioned. Thanks. My students like this book, "The Best of Martha Mier" collection of 7 late elementary favorite piano solos. Boys like Taco Rock and Jack o lantern Jamboree in there. I haven't had luck with her jazz, rags, and blues books but I know some teachers and their students love them. Piano Adventures has some fun supplement books for all levels, take a look on their website.
