Greetings from Missouri!

I received one of those headlamp flashlights for Christmas. I find myself using it all the time. It seems that there is NEVER enough light down inside pianos, no matter how much I fiddle with the light on the piano. It has come in very handy when doing repairs not having to hold a flashlight. The other day, I was applying a little Protek in a piano. I was out of hypo oliers, so I was using a large horse syringe that I had to apply it, along with my headlamp, my customer told me I looked like a doctor, all I needed was a white lab coat. LOL! I'm sure you more "seasoned" techs have already figured this out, but I've been really excited to use my new headlamp and just wanted to share. I know...I'm kind of a big nerd. grin

I have no doubt that you're going to love it Ryan!!!

When I was visiting my good friend Bob Maret in Florida in December, he bought me something similar but better, a little bigger. I've not worked much yet at least not in a setting where I needed it, with my surgery and all but I'm sure looking forward to trying it!

Thanks again Bob!!! It was nice visiting with you as always too!

I've been planning to get something like this.... in-piano regulation is such a pain in the butt when there's not enough light. Thanks for the endorsement!

I ALWAYS carry my clamp-on light with me, and use it about 95% of the time. If I'm walking into a school, the kids always ask if I'm the photographer. The headlamp flashlight would be a great thing in addition to my light, though.

Hi ! that is originally a French product made by mountain lovers (Petzl) :

http://www.petzl.com/fr/outdoor/lampes-frontales/serie-tikka-zipka/zipka-plus

mine is always in my pocket, the thin thread is somewhat uncomforteable for a long job , but having a strong flashlight in the pocket is too much an advanteage, the models with a strip take more space

The batteries last very long models with only one led are better (I had one with 3 and the light is better with one I find)

When walking at night in small streets where the cars tend to go to fast, my last game is to use the blinking mode of the lamp, it project on the wall as if a police car was somewhere near and I smile listening to the engine slowing !!

I stopped using tons of Protek for years and I have less call backs for too tight centers (and dont find center pins protuberating out of the flanges as it was the case before)

Addictive product, you use it once and you are obliged to add more and more

Possibly if used only sparingly when the parts are new it is less dangerous, but general opinion here is to avoid it on a new (Renner) action
The stuff provided by Renner is similar but thicker , as I see it it only can lube (less -1-2g) a yet functional flange

The other versions provided by Renner are freeing the center Just water and propanol I believe , but results are variable

Flanges are moistened at the moment the new center is installed (new parts) that is why you see sometime those red marks around the cloth When mounting new cloth, moistening helps to have a good cloth compression, and a perfect fit (but turning steel needles are used to ream flanges, on a machine that hold a lot of flanges together on an inclined setup Too bad I don't have a picture, and sorry for the OP

I bought a cheapo for $4 at Harbor Freight and I now use it on every tuning. I used to bring a floor lamp with a 12 foot extension cord...no more.

I buy them from Meritline when I need them, usually paying no more than $5.

Another great use for them that I just thought of, would be to slap it on your head before you enter a stage where you can't see squat. That happens a lot. Then instead of fishing around for your flashlight, you have this thing already on your head. So what that you look like a miner. If it keeps you from falling on your buttski, why not?

A friend fall in an open trap in dark theater when chasing for the piano

2 legs broken, and he was lucky (around 1,5 floor height) 2 months not working . Those sort of lights would have saved him

I started using one about 5 years ago and now don't leave home without it. I use rechagable nickel metal hydride AA batteries in my Petzl. I consider myself king of the geeks.

I have a version which has two small flashlights mounted on the sides of a pair of folding safety glasses. Works great but it uses costly tiny watch batteries for power. Another one I have clips on to the front brim of a baseball type cap. I still prefer the Joby Gorillatorch over all. Magnetic flexible tripod feet (rubberized bottom) and adjustable brightness....
