I remembered!

Taking a brief interval from my unbelieveble new toy - I have played almost my entire repertoire in the last two days and played more from sight than at any time in my (not brief) life!

Under the French King Louis XIV, the Sun King, there were several official state musicians in a variety of ensembles. The most famous and prestigious at the time were the 24 violons du roi, 6 violins, four each of three groups of violas divided into three registers and six basses de violons - somewhere between a modern 'cello and double bass. These were known as the Grande Bande and performed at all the important state functions.

Some time before 1656 Lully took over a smaller ensemble, 16 string players, the Petite Bande, and schooled them so well that they soon rose to prominence and the Grande Bande fell from grace.

A decade later the two bandes were reconciled and under Lully's direction performed together for grand occasions.

This was probably Lully's greatest achievement and its repercussion were to influence not only the make up of orchestras and ensembles in the future but also their style and the way music was written for them.

He later formed a partnership with the French playwright, Molière. They became known as 'les deux grands Baptistes' as they shared the same forenames (like the two Ronnies in the UK smile ).

Molière had sought a joint combination of music, dance and drama but under Lully's powers the drama paled into insignificance.

This is an excerpt from their most famous offering in the new comedie-ballet, Le Bourgeois Gentilhomme.

I shall alight,
But do delight
In the coming se'nnight.
Good night!

Thats excellent wayne, lovely pics, and all we needed was just the two to be able to triangulate in on your exact position, which means when the party goes mobile we know where to come.!

I know you will host a proper party, cant wait. lol.

I have just avoided mentioning anything about another thread entitled "masterclass with dick hyman"

I didnt mention the unfortunate name, nor did I mention that I didnt know dick had a hyman, or ever did.

Did I do well to keep shtun?

Hello, I'm back from the client heck hole that lasted six months. Human again.

I've just taken delivery of a harpsichord. It's a William Foster, mid/late 70s. Claim to fame: Anthony Burgess owned and played a William Foster, which is now on display in his Foundation in Manchester. It's mentioned on page 9 of his novel Earthly Powers.

Currently working on some Couperin preludes...

yippie Welcome back, Eglantine!!! You've been missed!! When did your Foster harpsichord arrive? How about showing some photos?

I'm not usually awake at this hour. However, I couldn't get back to sleep and decided to lurk a bit. I'm glad I saw you had just posted. I'm pretty much confined to weekend music postings, however. I don't have as much time for weekday music postings because I'm needing to put more time into piano practice. My teacher is giving me more difficult pieces to work on. I'll certainly not have time to get bored when I retire in June laugh

Right now I'm working on Clair de lune and "Raindrop Prelude."

I must get a bit more sleep now. Be back later!

SORRY SORRY SORRY, ( dont often say that) I received a PM off PPP , a couple of weeks ago, and he assured me he would be back, apparently he has had the odd peek in here as his busy schedule will allow, but he has been totally busy and immersed in his work, he did mention that he will be back so hopefully it will be soon.

I miss his posts a lot and also the stance he holds on so many issues, he is never afraid to state his case, and his "arguamenties" over at PC are legendary!! Never shy to unmask a potential bigot and usually with direct well written words to boot....

Come on PPP, i have just "bigged you up" lol.

also we need some more guitar dude posts.......

Why thank you Wayne, by the way, do you like it? ( i do loads and loads)

I am now so totally into "steampunk" I have watched the film "The prestige" which I can so heartedly reccomend , it has David Bowie in it ( fortunately not singing his new single!) in a sort of Cameo role as Tessla!

I have watched wild wild west, I have watched the golden compass, so if anyone knows of any good steampunk films or music just let me know and I will go watch/listen...???

Answers on a postcard to RST please.
