Dear all. I am have now cleared a suitable space in my hall pending the arrival of my Kawai CA95 on Friday. I am aware that the piano ships pre-built, however I was wondering how much packaging etc comes with it? I am of the belief that the delivery company will remove all this for me as part of the deal but I am just curious to know what to expect. Also, out of interest, I presume the concert grand piano setting is the preferred piano sound? From the Kawai website I must say I liked the sound of the studio grand sample. Thanks in advance.

The best voice - depends on who you ask. I don't like "2" presets, pv88 claims to like them more than "(1)". I like Concert Grand the most, then Jazz Grand but it's very similar so it's no suprise. Studio Grand is ok but worse I think. I REALLY don't like Mellow Grand but numerous people here say they like it so there you are. I didn't spend much time with others (Upright, ...).

Again from the samples on the website...I actually quite liked the upright piano sound! I guess I may feel differently when I hear them in person. Another question for you all - do you think that the soundboard makes a difference to other "normal" DP's? When I played the piano in the shop it was hard to tell as the volume was not at a high level.

Mine didn't come with too much packaging and they took it away for us. M preference is concert 1 and jazz grand 1, but both are a little too bright for me. Mellow is growing on me but wish there was something in between. Concert 2 just sounds really fake.

Make sure you set your wall equalizer based on where you place your piano

I will be placing it in my hallway against a wall. The hall is fairly large with high ceilings so I'm hoping it will sound great! I will probably spend most of the weekend playing around with the settings until I get my ideal sound. Can't wait!

Hallway or Hall? I have visions of a corridor 3 feet wide if a hallway. That would seriously mess the sound.

I would estimate it to be at least 8ft wide by 12ft long with the ceilings being about 12ft high.

As for all of the different presets it definitely comes down to a subjective choice for the player, as all of them are slightly different from one another in their tonal characteristics. I tend to prefer the somewhat brighter sounding presets with "2" after them, although others may like the first one. Be sure to try them all, as there is no bad preset in the bunch!

Also, look at all of the "Virtual Technician" settings as many of them (including "decay" and "string resonance") really add some realistic depth to the sounds. The reverb effects are excellent, too.

You have purchased one the best digitals currently available.

Btw. Hookxs -- does the CA-95 come with a piano bench out-of-the-box? The promo video from Kawai mentions one but that's the only place I've seen it mentioned.

Clayman, Kawai CA/CN instruments sold in the US and Australia include a bench. Those sold in most other parts of the world (e.g. Europe) do not.

I can tell you the box it will be delivered in is huge. I underestimated this big time, and mine was only the CA65. I suppose the box for the CA95 will even be bigger because of that soundboard...
The standard setting when you power up, is the concert grand , which I like most btw. I believe you can change this setting so when powering up, you have your most preferred piano sound, effects etc.
I lowered the reverb settings a bit and saved it.

Yes, you can change the Default Setting on power up. It is in the manual. And, you can also set it and all the settings back to factory.

Nice recording pv88, great piano sound! This time tomorrow I should have my CA95! I'm very lucky that I was able to afford it as my first DP and hopefully it will serve me well for a few years. Eventually I would like a DP in a similar style to the NU1/CS9, but that's for somewhere down the road.
