Yea, a few months ago this showed up. It might have been in the tuner/tech forum. I'm not sure.

#5 was pretty good, people on the internet giving advice have an agenda, yet we should believe that a salesperson paying their rent by selling Steinway pianos does not.

The overall theme of the myth list is to trust no one else and to come to the showroom so they can make the sale. If I lived in AZ I'd be looking for another dealer as I don't like companies that use fear mongering rather than being open and honest that sometimes a product they don't sell is the best match for a potential customer.

This one's near the bottom of the page...

One major university in the northwest paid a reputable rebuilder over $35,000 to rebuild their Steinway model D. When it was finished the soundboard, the strings, the pinblock, the hammers, the whippens were all non-Steinway. The only real Steinway parts on the piano are the iron plate and the name on the fallboard. The university has been so disappointed in the results they are now fundraising for a new Steinway.

Yeah, um, there's this school, and um, they like, bought a rebuilt piano but didn't like it, and um, now like they're gonna get a new one anyway... [/valleygirl accent]

It would have nothing, or almost nothing, to do with the parts. The finger should be pointed at the re-builder.

I guess the fact that Frank bought himself a different piano has raised some eyebrows?

Really, this seems extremely unprofessional. Why not also mention friends who play piano and give free advice, or teachers who give their two cents as well? Anyone who isn't them is not credible apparently. Not only that, but most of the advice given here always leads towards asking the OP if they've played the piano and which one do they like that best. I haven't seen any negative things said about Steinway or Essex except the price tag.

Yegads!

I just walked past the full-length mirror in our master bedroom and there was nothing there!

Should I be concerned?

We are from the (only imaginatory) german big city of Bielefeld..

"They" (dangerous extraterrestrials.. ) established a myth that there were a big city in western Germany. They built an airport, established a car numberplate ("BI-xy 123") pointing with the first two letters to that fictitious city (where are fields and lawns and cows only.. you should know that westphalian cows are more beautiful than westphalian girls <duck & cover>)..

And "they" established a car speed control at the nearby highway from Cologne to Berlin which gains much more than a million Euro per year from speeding cardrivers.

Everything Bielefeld related is a myth - only.
;-)

Only my speeding tickets were real.. <shy>

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Bielefeld_Conspiracy

We all are Bielefeldians!

laugh

[/sarcasmjoke off]

Greetings from Westphhalia
(..my wife is a girl from the Rheinland..)

If I remember correctly, this method of advertising is named "F.U.D.", fear, uncertainity, doubt.

And these methods are thought as pure negative marketing. To apply them speaks tons against the advertiser. I also wonder that Steinway New York did not notice this - and did not find appropriate action.

Sometimes I come a little bit in doubt regd. my favourite piano brand.. Some days before a (trying-to-hide-himself) Westphalian Steinway dealer ("Count-de-money"..., can be - roughly only.. - translated as "Duke of Absurdistan", or "Counter of Cash") posted in the german forum of clavio.de a Steinway advertising regd. old Steinways and their several "classes" or categories..

.. where also "Stein-Was" pianos belonged to - Steinway pianos which were falsely refurbished, off of the Steinway plants, and/or equipped with "other" parts - so these pianos once were Steinway pianos, but now they are "compromised", they won't be Steinway pianos any longer, as long as they were not sent to the Steinway Hamburg (re)manufacturing plant and would get an original Steinway soundboard and a wholly new original Steinway mechanism.. et cetera.

Also; negative marketing of the F.U.D. type.

Steinway Corp. to find appropriate action against this (IMHO) primitive advertising.
