Found a store near me with a couple of Samick uprights that seem reasonably priced any comments on them? Recently tuned, checked, etc. though they seem a bit 'bright' when playing, but I'm not an expert.

One is SU-300S model. the other is SU-118PA which I seem to like better. They are both from the mid/late 1980s.

Thoughts?

In the mid to late 1980's these were both student level quality pianos at best. I would recommend having a piano technician examine both instruments before jumping on board.

Has the store done any reconditioning work that you know of?

In the middle ages there was a custom of offering those convicted of capital crimes the choice between quartering and burning at the stake. The choice between different Samicks from the 80s strikes me as not wholly dissimilar.

I LOL'd. thumb

I agree though, buy a new Sammick if you like that sound, but not old and used.

Helpful comments. I am going to pass on the Samick. I tried out other pianos, since, and going to pass by it.

See if you can find some used Yamaha U series uprights. Their reputation is quite good and they shouldn't be too hard to find. Just be sure to have it checked out to ensure that it wasn't used in a practice room or something.
