Honest, I guess self playing pianos belong in another subforum, but I thought the implementation of digital technology was so nice.

Perhaps could we hope for this really nice interface to become more common (than only Bösendorfer self playing grand pianos)? Perhaps it is more common?

Starting at 0:34, you can see Frank Baxter (founder of these forums) recording on the CEUS.

I agree it is a very elegant interface for the basic functions.

I've got a few CDs recorded on a Bösendorfer 290 Imperial SE piano which records faithfully what a pianist plays in concert, then reproduces it in more ideal conditions (i.e. when the audience has gone.....). Have a look, and I think you can download a few clips for free: www.hurstwoodfarmpianos.co.uk/concerthall.php?pgid=p. Click on 'Young Maestros Label'.

Check your link again, as it doesn't go to what you say it does.

Hopefully, corrected....

That's Rich Galassini from Cunningham Piano playing and I believe the technician explaining the interface is Mario Aiwasian. I met with Mario when I was given a tour of Bösendorfer's workplace in Vienna about four years ago. I went to have a first hand look at their version of the hybrid grand and got to play one of the prototypes.

I don't know if Mario is still with Bösendorfer since he is now with AlphaPiano. Yamaha bought out Bösendorfer and that seemingly put a stop to the development of their hybrid piano.

The AlphaPiano is probably what the Bösendorfer's hybrid would have turned out to be.

Gotta admit, that AlphaPiano is pretty cool, even just in design & aesthetics. If Yamaha a) owns Bosendorfer, and b) is about to show off some new modeling tech to take on Roland V-Piano at NAMM and / or Musikmesse, put it in this box.

You'd generate buzz if the tech works, but even more if it's packaged well, love it or hate it. The only thing worse than folks talking about you, is folks not talking about you.

By now, maybe they won't have to pay any royalties to Porsche Design Studio, though it seems to have evolved a bit over the years. Looks like it was first shown in 2001-ish. Most recent info shown on that page that I came across was 2012 March.

Not sure if AP is still actively developing it, esp. in this economy, but Yamaha probably has deep enough pockets to make it happen.
