hi all i have recently been looking for a DP to learn on , i have looked at many in the shops for around the £800 TO £1000 mark but when i was asked what i wanted it for my main aim is to attend our jam night we have in our local,i have started lessons and my tutor says it wont be long before i can attend and join in, the jam night is for anyone to get up and play together nothing serious. so then i thought of getting 2 , 1 for home and a stage piano but it would mean getting a cheaper stage piano and cheaper DP. anyway i called at my local music shop today to discuss my options and they just today have put a Roland RD300NX second hand as new for £400 these sell new for £1400 this seems a bargain but would it be adequate to learn on ?
regards carl

Carl, why don't you post your pics here? A number of us have experience of the RD series pianos. As James says, if it's the NX, it's a real bargain.

Woot, that's the one!
400 quid, and there's nothing wrong with it? Yeah, definitely go for it!

Oh man that's a major steal! The Canadian equivalent is $650 or thereabouts. I paid $1900 for mine brand new!
SNAG IT!

If you paid £400 for that you got the bargain of the decade.

If it's the NX, grab it - 400 quid is a bargain.
However, I suspect it's probably an older model like the NX, or original RD-300. Still a decent board, especially for jamming, but not quite up to the standard of the latest NX.
Cheers, James x Yes, get it as fast as you can!!! I think the confusion in this thread was due to a typo by James in the quote above. I think he meant to say "an older model like the GX". The NX is a current model I think.

Guys you no what they say if it seems too good to be true it prob is. Turns out my pal at the music shop who also buys second hand pianos had someone contact him with pics above only wanting £400 quick sale , being a pal he told me this would be ideal for me a total bargain and he could get double for it . Long story short the guy wanted my pal to buy it through google checkout and have it shipped direct to me , not being daft my mate had the google link checked out turns out to be fake. SCAM he prob got the pics from someone else selling it and used them as his own. He stated that google checkout hold funds until the item is properly checked out and your happy with which is rubbish . He has bought via PayPal before he says but you have protection if the item is not as described.
Anyway my search continues so ideas of a decent stage piano £500 to £1000 would be a great help ,
Regards Carl .

Some new models should be announced at NAMM, in the next week. If buying new, you might want to wait a bit.
I played (and was happy with) the Yamaha P155 and Casio PX-350. Casio PX-150 is less expensive, shares piano voices and keyboard mechanism with PX-350, but has a limited voice set, and no "auto-accompaniment" feature.
The PX-350 has one voice labelled "Rock Piano". It's heavily compressed (always plays LOUD) and is just what you need for playing in a bar band. Don't use it for Chopin or Debussy!
IMHO, Yamaha P105 has a keyboard action worse than the P155, but still quite playable.
Those 4 should be within your price range.
. Charles
PS -- I bought the PX-350 partly because of its "light weight". Still heavy and bulky -- probably as good as you can get, with 88 weighted keys.
