I got it. So it sounds really like Parker, its Little suede shoes, but the quality is far too good. Even remastered Parker doesnt sound like that, so its remastered .....(the other sax player who sounds so much like Parker). I think

Briefly going back to regularly scheduled programming, I just recorded a little Giant Steps practice in swing. It sounds awful to me for some reason. Maybe I need to break up my lines into smaller chunks to keep the rhythm flowing better. Critique of any magnitude welcome. Giant Steps - Swing http://www.box.net/shared/m8zfsar3c0

My gosh that is so recognizable. In the first 5 seconds. Maybe because I listen to him a lot. Edit - just today, I bought tickets to his concert scheduled in January...

Man I am batting 0 for 100! Sounded like an homage to Herbie, or someone who likes his style. I really have no clue though. The bassist sounds like Ron Carter though, or like he was in some of those old Herbie trios.

Herbie doing odd meters? Not a chance. You need to listen more carefully to the players you know, man. LOL. My only question is what album this is from since I have all of his albums (or so I thought) and I have never heard this.

Ok, my turn for the guessing game: http://www.box.net/shared/il1j3p8j1gCAVEAT: Skip to the 00:08 second mark, then press play. Otherwise you will hear a voice intro and it may give it away. I don't have the editing software to cut it out right now. http://www.box.net/shared/n5rcell8iy2nd one is an ma4 file, so you have to download it. It's worth it! A duet covering one of Wayne Shorter's tune. All 3 players are well known and you'd know their names instantly if I said it.

hehe wee! I was concentrating on the piano on the first listen, my guess now is Ahmad Jamal. I listen to some of his stuff but not much.
Close?
Now try the 2 clips I put up.

>> You notice how this guy can swing at such fast tempos
are we talking about the Wiz' 1st clip? Yes, when he plays 16th's you can hear it (which doesn't come till later). Now the second one, I thought was Herbie until I finaly saw the title on the track. These types of players are hard to guess because they can mimic Herbie, etc.

Ah...hahaa, that sucks.
Funny about the 1st one, jazzwee, who were you thinking of?
And same with the 2nd.
Yeah I'll need to get Audacity or something to clean up the files. knotty is right, lots of free gems on NPR. That's where I go now, no need for a radio.
So who's the guy for your last clip knotty?

jazzwee, no, that is actually Hiromi!! bet you wouldn't have guessed it in a million years.
I'm sure it fooled some because most don't think she can play ballads like Blue in Green, but I do like her slower songs, unlike the fast ones where she's blazing.
That new duo album by Charlap/Rosnes really is good, Renee is one of my favourite players and I can recognize her playing cause I do listen to her alot. Charlap sounds more old school, he was on a special with Tony Bennett for Elvis Costello's Spectacle show. Pat Metheny, Charlie Haden were on another one too.

That sounds so familiar, like I was just listening to it yesterday, but I can't place it. I am sure it will be so obvious when I find out.
