It's Fun to Play the Piano ... Please Pass It On!
I love Nostalgia ! I think that was one of the first solos I learned with Charlie Shoemake when I first came to LA in '79. Yes well played K !
I used to have a solo arrangement of that playing part of the melody in 4ths against a LH playing 10ths with an open 5th to 6 to Maj7 inner voice movement thing. It was kinda cool. I should try and re learn that and record it.
Thanks for posting, I'd totally forgot about Nostalgia.

>>But when I record my Steinway, it comes out so dry in comparison. You must live in a big mansion. I have this problem too. It's really hard to record an acoustic and make it sound good at all. I probably don't have the patience for it.
Dave, Great playing on Estate. Love the tune. The french singer Nougaro did a version of it with beautiful lyrics and that tune's been with me since I was a very little boy. Always a kind of special tune to me. Very rhythmic approach on your part.
JW, How does the Nord sound live? you like the sound better. Had the occasion to take it out yet?
Knotty, Saturday will be my first gig to use it. But just testing it against Aeoborsold and turning everything up, I know it will sound good. This is truly a gigging axe.
Had a jam last night but I left the recorder on Stand-by so no recording at all. But we did do some tricky stuff like Windows.
I'm so busy with gigs and preparing for them that I'm not 'practicing', especially anything new.

Thanks Knotty. I haven't heard the Nougaro version, it's not even on youtube. A shame as I would like to check it out. I do like the Brunoi Martino one though.
He took of lot of great standards and added french lyrics to them. His lifetime pianist Maurice vander also wrote several beautiful tunes for him. Le coq et la pendule is one such.
As you may or may not remember, I've used a Zoom H4n to record my trio and solo piano stuff. Just recently I've put together a demo for restaurants that I'm now going to shop around. I'd appreciate if you'd listen to it and let me know if it is ok.
I've 'mixed' the H4 with Garage Band adding reverb and bass, and maybe a little compression on various tracks and in various combinations. Given that the recording was in stereo with the built in mics I couldn't do much else (no pan, or changing levels etc) but I think the results are pretty good considering the simplicity.
For those interested, I basically put the H4 on the music desk of the upright piano facing the strings (with the front open) and the rest of the band was sitting within 2 metres of the mic.
The playing is great on those tracks. One thing I do if you don't have an extra mic floating around, you can often connect line out from the bass' amp straight into the XLR / 1/4" of the Zoom. Then you can at least mix the bass to your liking. It's probably a bit low now. Drums can just pick up the bleed and that's fine.
But the demo as it is is great. Pretty hip trio you got there.
