A CD came with my Yamaha DGX640. On it is something called the "Musicsoft Downloader". A quick look at it seemed to indicate that it's nothing more than a portal to ordering/purchasing more materials from Yamaha.

But I didn't actually install it. I just wanted to make sure that I'm not missing anything worthwhile, so I thought that I'd ask exactly what it was. Has anyone installed and used it?

Thanks!

It came with my Clavinova.
I tried it. I found nothing worthwhile. I deleted it.

I just installed that this morning. My 105 manual says that I need it to allow for the transferring of songs between the computer and the piano. I didn't get the cd but I downloaded it from their site. It works great for taking the songs you record in the pianos flash memory and shifting them to the computer to save permanently(freeing up space for more recordings). You can, or course, put midi songs onto the piano as well.

Am I missing something and I really don't need this program?

It's easier and better to record MIDI on the computer straight away, even with the simplest of program (such as Red Dot Forever). It's easier, I think, than fiddling with the buttons on the piano in order to record ... then stop and wait for the save ... then hope you haven't used up all the save-slots ... then transfer the recording to the computer.
