That's funny. I once had a lady roll up next to me in her wheel chair and say, "If you keep playing like that, no one will want to listen to you!" To which I kindly replied, "I'm not playing it, I'm tuning it. If you will stick around after I get finished tuning it I'll play you a few songs." She said, "OK." When I finished, several others had gathered behind me. We pass out the hymnals and had a little hymn sing. They are always so appreciative of anyone who will give them a little time and attention. Not unlike any of us I guess.

On the other hand, I once interrupted an episode of "The Andy Griffith Show". The fellow watching it was not happy at all to have the piano tuned that day. LOL!

First lady: "What's he doing?"
Second lady: "He's tuning the piano, Mildred."
First lady: "What's he doing that for?"
Second lady: "To make it sound better."
First lady: "To make it sound better? That sounds awful!"

Hmmmm? That song I'm playing??

It's called; 'The Piano Tuner's Lament', of course.

The long version....naturally.

I didn't hear the question, but the answer was, "No, dear, that's just some kind of 'Modern Art.'"

"Those flowers on the piano need some water"....

A nursing home I tune for has silk flowers in a basket on top of the piano. Someone thought it would be a good idea to water them... The water trickled though the hinge slot between the front and back lid, and dripped into the action. This week I will be replacing check felts, butt felts, wippen heel felts....

He doesn't play very well does he?

The comments are never nuanced or oblique. They just lay it all right out there, often at a pretty high volume.

No, they are not. Sometimes they are down right funny. One time, one lady had the whole room cracking up including the nurses and me when she wanted to kill me with an axe because I wouldn't stop tuning the piano. The words that woman was using to get her point across to me. WOW. I finally couldn't keep in my laughter any longer. I had to get up and walk out for a while. GOOD F"N RIDDEANCE YOU XCXCBXCC(*(*&&^%%$. Which of course, made me about fall over laughing.
