I hope I'm not being inappropriate by offering a piano in this forum. If so, I apologize. But it is such a beautiful old instrument, and I figure there must be an enthusiast here if there is anywhere.

It's at my late grandfathers place in Sharon CT. He was a collector of junk and treasures. I don't have the means, the time, or the room to bring it home and fix it up. We're clearing out the house to sell, so if I don't find a home for this instrument it will probably end up in a dump.

The ivories are intact, and it plays... more or less. It is ornately painted and ornamented under the lid.

Does anyone know where I might find a home for this old beauty near Northwest Connecticut?

Check in with your local historical society. They may take a charitable donation and give you a receipt.

Nothing yet-- its still there.
The house is on the market, and we've gone through all the junk and treasures and taken what's useful or valuable to us. We sold a few antiques. I found 4 toy pianos, an incredible music box with a box of disks, a Portuguese guitar, and a lot more stuff that I will treasure and use.

The house is 7 hours away from us. If it were just a little closer, I would consider keeping the house; it's really special and it holds good memories. A lot if interesting junk/treasure remains in the house, but to bring any more home would be folly (and would threaten my marriage). There's a harpsichord from a kit, and another upright piano.

The next step is to clear out the house, and throw eveything out. I'm sick just thinking of throwing out all that stuff, even the antique scythes in the garage (I already took 1). But it's the square grand that I really cant stand the thought of destroying.

I do intend to contact some historical societies and museums around the area-- Thanks for the suggestion Marty!

You probably should call an antique dealer or auction house and let them go through the house. You may not get much, but if you hate dealing with cleaning the house and throwing these things out, that may be the most satisfying way of dealing with it all.
