Sorry for your loss.
Your list of lost vessels is a welcome memorial for those deserving of one.
I'm up late thinking about things. Thinking about things that come to mind while I listen to some of the music shared recently in this thread.
Summer of 1990 came to mind. I was a freshman in high school. I was in Seattle for the summer, with my mom. During the school year I would have been in California with my dad. Summer in Seattle as a 15 year old is a sensitive film, ISO 3200.
This memory is courtesy of the Siouxsie song. I met a girl that introduced me to Siouxsie that summer. This girl was an eccentric redhead, and I spent a summer writing poems for her. It was lame. But at least I picked up a taste for macabre music. To me, this redhead still embodies a certain mythos of female narcotic seduction. It's hard to describe. Thinking about it makes me think I know what hard drugs would have been like, had I ever indulged.
For some reason I also thought about Jazz butcher, I think it was a Rossy selection about be-bop something or other. Never heard that, it was a good choice. I listened to Jazz Butcher a lot around that same time.
Not much else to say, feeling poignantly reflective, but before me, again, is that curtain of inevitability of noncontact. Billions of sparks that are our souls, eternally isolated. It's a funny joke when you are in that moment of realization that the closest contact is only further evidence of loneliness. Better not to be all that reflective, and just remain in the moment. Let's just go ahead and live some more. It's pretty cool, anyway, and any contact with another soul, no matter how intriguing an occurrence, might just mean a loss of identity, and do we really want that?

Thank you for this posting PPP. Benjamin Britten's "War Requiem" is powerful. I first became familiar with his work when I was a college sophomore in the Varsity Choir. Thanks again.

It's Veterans Day in the U.S. I've now just learned something about Poppy Day in the U.K. Words are woefully inadequate to express what I'm feeling as I reflect on the postings here today. Sorry Rossy I never meant for the Britten Requeim to only be indicative of WWI and WWII soldiers sacrifice. It was meant to convey an overall sense of empathy and reflection.

No probs PPP, its just a personal gripe of mine that so many go hardly unrecognised, even when they do mention they allways talk atlantic convoys, and never Artic convoys... The list of merchant vessels lost is so hideously long, i thought everyone should see it at least once in their lives...

AO, I'd have to guess that's a peel session or carcass era recording. It's unfamiliar. Nice for a new listen. While I was in Spain for a month in '92, I relied upon 5 dubbed cassette recordings of Siouxsie, it was 9 different LPs. Could you imagine a month of nothing besides 9 albums, and being content--more than content.
I want to join the Siouxsie sharing, but I can't find anything profound enough. Everything seems too poppy (sic), although I love it all. Kinda want to share Tenant.
I just found a video I thought they took down--it's back! This is a great song, great original video (actually an animation of
Ogden's poem, The Hangman) , potent and worthwhile.

I haven't looked in for a while. Rossy, I for one did not know there were so many. Also, I have always found this hymn so very moving, since I was a kid, without the appreciation I now have.
