Probably about when the socket set came out to loosen plate bolts while still strung and under tension. Looks like a good candidate for becoming a piano bookcase.

Seen a few refinished pianos then finding out the "fix a few keys" turn out to be total junk. Maybe if the boat in trade had no keel... that would work!

If you read the writing on the plate, that is exactly what it says: Steinway & Sons New York Hamburg. So it is not as funny as it might seem.

Then again, there is that secret location abutting Astoria known as Hamburg. The workshop is fronted by a bakery specializing in Apfelstrudel.

The ad says it's "Gorgeous," but that's not exactly the first word that comes to my mind.

Sounds to me like, "Call. Or the piano gets it.."

A bargain on a Steinway!

1926 Steinway OR Piano

A customer of mine who shares my CL trolling addiction went and looked at this piano. It turns out the owner did a DIY rebuild, and had a thought to support the soundboard crown. He came up with his own version of a tension resonator.

My customer took some photos before making a hasty retreat:

I really like the bridges and tuning pins mounted directly on the soundboard!

And, the foam packing is a nice touch...

Help me out!

I can't find the humor in the Steinway ad. Actually it's a good price and seems to be in decent condition.

They are certainly being honest when they describe the piano as "unique"! I wonder if the "Sound Board Crown Correction" is patented? We could really be onto something here! The next step in piano restoration evolution!

To do the new-fangled restoration, you would need all of the tools from the OT thread.

Wait a minute!

That's the piano in the Craigslist ad? I thought they were two different pianos-OMG!

I thought the trick in the listing was "Steinway OR Piano" as if Steinway wasn't a piano without understanding the model.

I feel so foolish!
