Martha's daughter, a filmmaker, has produced a full length movie, titled "Argerich" (or "Bloody Daughter"). The film is said to chronicle Martha's professional and private life, in particular her relationship with her children and juggling career and motherhood. It is being premiered at a film festival in Switzerland. It would be a near miracle if it makes it to the US but I will keep my eyes open. It should be interesting as it may highlight aspects of the great artist that have not been made public before. Trailer on Vimeo here

I don't know what to think...
A daughter making a documentary about her living mother?
On the other hand, why not? We have enough composers and performers missing from life and so many things to assume about them, so perhaps this move could prove great!
Other than that, I'm fairly certain, Andromaque, that it will be available as a DVD and/or digital download, so you'll be able to see it. Plus for such a movie it's best to view it at home, or visit France to see it...

Yes, it was called "Bloody Daughter". It was a movie about her private life (made by her youngest daughter). It does reveal a lot of private details and conflicts. I am surprised it is not out yet in other countries...

Well, I hope it will come to the US soon. It was very interesting. It might even have been on the SBS catch-up page, but it is not there any more (if it was there at all), and I am not sure SBS catch-up programs work outside Australia anyway.

A fair amount of mention on the Argerich DB. I have seen clips, and will be interested in seeing the whole thing at some point.
I do wonder about the nasty title of the film, it rubs me the wrong way, and seems rather inappropriate. But of course genius has never been about easy-going, friendly people, and I do not know anything about the experiences of Argerich's daughter(s).
Since a young teen I have always put Argerich on a pedestal (one can take issue with her interpretations, but not her technical address), so therefore she cannot take a step forward or backward without falling off. I learned this with Wagner, big time.

Nice to "see" you again Jason. I had a rough couple of months. Now healthy again, more or less. Bloody Daughter sounds like a poor (French) use of English .

Maybe they wanted to catch the attention with the title. The meaning was mentioned somewhere, either in the movie or in the synopsis. In reality she is very nice, not bloody at all!

Maybe there is also some sarcasm in the title because the father didn't seem to care (he never recognized her and he is still not interested in recognizing her). So he probably considers her a "bloody daughter". (There is a scene where he seems to be very annoyed because she asks him why he never recognized her - she even cries, but he is untouched.)

Nice to see you back here too! hope you are feeling better. Yes, it does not translate well into English. I wonder if the meaning is closer to "Natural Daughter" (i.e. as in related by nature and blood if not the law).

I have just found out that the original (Swiss) title is just "Argerich".... I think the choice of words is intentional, probably something a weird pun. I don't really like it either, but I think it is intentional... Not the best choice, but not a translation mistake either. Obviously the person who chose the English title wanted a catchy title because "Argerich" was not catchy enough for him/her. And it did catch our attention, although not favourably. Anyway, I have just found out that there is a Facebook page dedicated to the movie (that's where I read about the original title too): Bloody Daughter
