i wanted to get the yamaha p155 successor or cp33 successor, both were unavailable at namm.

might get a casio, 1 thing bother me about the casios, for gods sake could they not upgrade the pedal? i am willing to pay extra for it. buy a $500-$1000 piano, get a cheap plastic pedal. CHARGE A HIGHER PRICE AND UPGRADE THE PEDAL. people will PAY for it. how much more could it possibly be, just $50 to $100 more, chump change for someone buying a piano, comon casio where is the common sense?

as for other brands, what are the models that will compare with the p155 or the cp33?

For a single pedal, there are high quality third-party pedals that will work fine on the Casio. I don't know what to do about a triple pedal, though. You may only be able to put two third-party pedals on a Casio.

i read that you won't be able to get the half pedal effect if you don't use casios 3pedal setup. so what does it matter if you could buy a higher quality pedal, you won't be able to half pedal anyways.

It wasn't clear to me from your post that that half-pedaling was a priority.

I would fully expect the PX-5S to come with the same pedal as all the other Casios.

The single pedal unit that comes with the keyboard is the toy.

The included pedal works at least.

There are inexpensive alternatives for those who want something better:

M-Audio $17 or On Stage $24

If the three functions are not important you could be thrifty buying a PX150 and one of the two alternative pedals.

Actually, this is the first I've heard of that as well. (Also, I don't even think you can connect three pedals to the CP33/P155.)

Actually, there were some complaints about the SP-30 pedal that went with the older Casios. The complaints were that the plastic would crack and disentegrate around the pin that the pedal pivots on. I returned a PX-800 in part because the pedal bar seemed flimsey to me. However, I have not heard or read about any recent complaints about the pedal bars in quite some time.
