Hi all. I read with great interest that Kawai have announced the release of the CS10 at NAMM 2013. I see that it basically appears to be CA95 in a K2 cabinet. I had my CA95 delivered just over a week ago and I am thrilled with it, to me it is the best DP on the market at present especially when you consider the competitive asking price! That said, now with the CS10 it would appear that Kawai have struck gold as it looks stunning and with the feel and sound of the CA95 I think it will blow all other DP's out of the water including the Yamaha NU1. I look forward to reading other people's thoughts on this.

Tom Tom, you are correct, the CS10 is effectively a CA95 in a K-2 cabinet. This model will replace the CS9 (which was a CA93 in the same K-2 cabinet), that was unfortunately not marketed in the US.

James: It appears that the case for the CS10 is taller (I think) than the CA95. Do you know if the sound board on the back is larger as well or is it the same size? Larger sound board = greater depth of bass...

If it comes in a satin finish I might just be on board...

It seems like Kawai has the ball and is running hard with inovation. I was parcel to Yamaha for so many years until I started playing on Kawai pianos. I bought the CA65 a week ago and am afraid I am going to wear it out, ive been playing it so much. In a few years when I buy a grand piano I will seriously consider a Kawai Grand.

The soundboard is identical to the CA95, however the taller cabinet may help to enhance resonances a little.

In regards to Black polih: Since black satin pianos start out as black polih then are rubbed out for the satin finish the same could be done if a user wanted to on a CS10. It would just take a piano restorer a few hours to accomplish this since they do this detail work for a living.

The CS10 seems fantastic! I would have seriously considered it had it been available when I got my LX-15.

The CS10 does indeed look great but I could never justify spending almost €4000 (the current price of CS9 at Thomann is €3799) on a beginner's DP.

I agree with the sentiment. I preferred the CS9 to the LX15 after testing them in a store in London. The CS10 has to be the cherry. What's the pricing though?

In what sense is the CS10 a "beginners DP"? It's actually one of the finest models available.

(As I have said a few times, I'm getting a DP in the near future and have so far settled for the CA-95, which is already quite spendy. 4000 euro would be just too much.)

I don't get why Kawai calls it hybrid. To be hybrid it should have a real upright action, as the NU1, which has a real upright action.

For the price of the cs10 you can get the real thing and buy the kawai k2

I remember hearing from someone with expertise that there are a variety of different approaches to getting a satin finish, and also that there are different types of polish finishes.

If you're SURE about this idea, great; if not, you might want to check before putting a big investment at risk.

As far as I can tell, the Kawai satin finish is just a veneer.
I very much doubt they start with expensive polyester gloss and sand it down . . .

PE is an acrylic (and expensive) paint. You can find the same paint for example on kitchen furnitures sometimes

All satins are veneers of course.

Right... Thanks Guys. Foolish of me to think that the finish could be sanded down to become a satin finish.

I hoped that Kawai would had presented a competitor for the Yamaha NU-1 so to have two options to choose from. Unfortunately my hopes have been disappointed, since the CS-10, despite being a beautiful instrument, doesn't catch-up with the real upright action of the NU-1.

I still hope that Kawai will someday manufacture a digital piano implementing their upright millenium action, which is fantastic. In the meantime I'll try to stay with my CA-63 and to keep me from buying the NU-1...

Such a thing is available from Kawai: the K2 ATX or K3 ATX. And you get a real accoustic function as a bonus

Thanks but I already own an upright acoustic. What I need is a digital piano with an acoustic action, and seen how much yamaha is selling its avant grand series I'm not alone in this request.
Also K2 ATX or K3 ATX cost a lot more than an hybrid like the NU-1 (here the NU-1 costs around 4000 euro, while I've seen the K2 ATX going for 5600 - 5700 euro).

I have great news - the CS-10 has finally hit the market - and in the USA!

I live in Malmö, situateed in the most southern part of Sweden, and via a bridge I can go to Copenhagen, Denmark in about 25 minutes.
I have been vititing a fantastic shop there, Juhl-Sørensen A/S, that are extremely customer friendly and they have been informed that the CS-10 will arrive in April at which time I will place my order!
Cannot wait to lay my hands on what must be the best, and coolest, digital piano in the world...

Any price info and release date info for Europe ?

To my mind (or fingers) the Kawai action which simulates the action of a grand piano, is better than most real upright actions, certainly those of a similar price point anyway.
