This custom search works much better than the built in one and allows searching older posts.

Which special (design, limited edition, etc.) grand pianos do you like? I really like these three Bösendorfers. Blue, and still very much the future. Brüssel World´s fair 1958 Designed by Dipl.-Ing. Sorry, but personally I find these piano to be very ugly: awkward/unbalanced. I guess I'm more of a traditionalist

Me too. Those are toe stubbers and head bumpers if you have to get underneath the thing.

I like the Porsche Design from Bösendorfer. It's more normal yet modern without being so way out there. Don't like the Audi one. I don't like any of the special designs all that much. I think a piano is an instrument, not a decoration, even though it does take up a lot of space and might as well be a bit decorative, but not so over the top.

PLU is absolutely correct. The tradition of art case and special edition pianos is a marvelous addition to the history of the great builders.

They have a couple of the earlier Bösendorfer art-cases at the Kunsthistorisches in Vienna. We took this photo there a while back:  I believe they will still sell this as a special order, model "Brussel". Expect to pay 3x what a plain-case Bösendorfer would cost, though.

Paul, it is very clear that all those Steinways are built with a very fine craftmanship, but I don't think they're that good looking. If I had to pick one I would choose one you picked, Grove Park. OK, so the Germans make decent pianos. I think it`s too much to ask of them that they look good . . . their cars certainly don`t.
