Which special (design, limited edition, etc.) grand pianos do you like? I really like these three Bösendorfers. Blue, and still very much the future. Brüssel World´s fair 1958 Designed by Dipl.-Ing. Jürgen Felsenstein, office Nobert Schlesinger. http://www.boesendorfer.com/en/bruessel.html This is a more modern modern design http://www.boesendorfer.com/en/design-by-f-a-porsche.htmlAnd finally, my favourite, the Audi one. They have really captured the Audi desing language, and if you watch the movie you'll see the effort they put into this piano. It really looks nice! http://www.boesendorfer.com/en/audi.html

Sorry, but personally I find these piano to be very ugly: awkward/unbalanced. I guess I'm more of a traditionalist

Me too. Those are toe stubbers and head bumpers if you have to get underneath the thing.

I am fond of the Schimmel Omar Alt piano. Google it if you are curious.

I like the Porsche Design from Bösendorfer. It's more normal yet modern without being so way out there. Don't like the Audi one. I don't like any of the special designs all that much. I think a piano is an instrument, not a decoration, even though it does take up a lot of space and might as well be a bit decorative, but not so over the top.

PLU is absolutely correct. The tradition of art case and special edition pianos is a marvelous addition to the history of the great builders.

They have a couple of the earlier Bösendorfer art-cases at the Kunsthistorisches in Vienna. We took this photo there a while back: I believe they will still sell this as a special order, model "Brussel". Expect to pay 3x what a plain-case Bösendorfer would cost, though.

That seems to be an early (?) ver. of the one pictured first in my org. post.

I can't decide which is my most favorite (probably because I can't afford any of them!), but here are my favorites from Steinway (they're all Bs): Ellipse: Grove Park: Pallisandre: St. Croix: You can see the rest of Steinway's art cases here: http://www.steinway.com/pianos/steinway/art-case

Paul, it is very clear that all those Steinways are built with a very fine craftmanship, but I don't think they're that good looking. If I had to pick one I would choose one you picked, Grove Park. Video (not too exiting) https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=g5IdqnsDxaMWas for sale for 100 000 USD. http://www.ebay.com/itm/Steinway-B-2003-...C-/200700352853I can't decide which is my most favorite (probably because I can't afford any of them!), but here are my favorites from Steinway (they're all Bs): Ellipse: ... OK, so the Germans make decent pianos. I think it`s too much to ask of them that they look good . . . their cars certainly don`t.
Get the French on the job.
