It is definitely worth the difference because of the the GH keyboard, yes. But the Ydp 161 also has better amplifiers (141 with 6 watts is very weak). The 128 voice polyphony on the 161 could also be useful if you do recording or play in dual layer mode. The YDP 161 is a good instrument in its class, I think.

Have you tried them both? I find the GHS keyboard quite unacceptable. The GH is much better.

Thanks for the quick replies I have tried them both the touch difference does not bother me much tho im not playing years or I am sure it probably would.Basically all it will be used for is practice and me messing around in my spare time it will be in my room which isnt big so i dont need high end speakers and 90% of the time i will be using headphones anyway thing is the YDP 161 is 1059 eur for pretty much an entry DP 141 is 859 and chances are unless i go with a more high end one both will be replaced in a few years for ABRSM progression. Also im sure Yamaha are releasing a newer version also YDP 142 and 162

Well, YDP 142 and 162 was announced this NAMM. I don't know if they will be launched in Europe though? Does anyone else know? With your references to EUR I suppose you live in Europe?
Another alternative in this range might be Kawai CN24 (haven't tested any Kawai so I can't really properly recommend it, but it looks good on paper, and I'm about to order a CN34 myself).

I agree with toddy. The GHS is not as bad as Mac says and certainly acceptable for a beginner, but the 161 is absolutely worth the cost to upgrade. The action is much better as are the speakers. You will be able to develop better technique on the GH action, making it the better investment. Better action isn't about luxury, it extends the useful life of the instrument.

I know I was looking at similar options, and ruled out the 141 for the S-31 which is basically the same thing, and much cheaper. The action is the same.
