Hi Piano World friends,

Really glad to have found this forum with so many great performances from users! I'm new here, so just wanted to introduce myself by sharing some compositions I have covered, including movie and video game themes, along with a few other favourite artists (Einaudi, Tiersen, Cacciapaglia). Here is a link to my channel: http://www.youtube.com/user/ChaosEmerald08

Apologies for my poor technique in some videos, which I can only attribute to never having piano lessons, but I hope you enjoy the videos anyway. Constructive criticism is very welcome, as are any requests for future videos.

Thanks for listening and happy playing smile

Emma

Thanks for sharing! I enjoy some video game music, too. You might get more feed back in the "Pianist Corner Non-Classical" forum. This part is actually geared toward classical music (though the site doesn't specifically note that, oops)

Either way, welcome to Piano World! smile

Two things became apparent to me within seconds of watching your performances. (Admittingly, I watched Jurassic Park before the Moonlight mvt1. I'm a sucker for John Williams music.)

1. You have musical talent. It could not be clearer.
2. You have some technique issues that prevent you from performing to the level that I instinctively believe you 'hear' the music.

I don't really have the time right now to do a full breakdown of your technique (it's 4am and I have to be at the airport in two hours), but you've got enough videos posted that, if you'd like, we can start a PM chain to discuss. smile

For now, I'll pick the top two:

1. Wrist height. Watch the opening of your Moonlight. Look at your left wrist compared to your right. Your right is more akin to "proper" height. Your left is way too low, and it causes a concave arching of your hand, which creates tension.

2. Stretching. Your fingers sometimes look uncomfortable, because you hold your hand open with your fingers spread out. Try this: drop your hand to your side as if you're just relaxing. Move your fingers as rapidly as possible. Should be no problem. Now, spread your fingers out as straight and wide as you can, like you're holding up a huge number "5". Move your fingers. You'll feel a ridiculous amount of stress and tension. The idea is to eliminate the second as much as possible, so you can move as fluidly as the first.

There are ways to do this, and I'd be happy to discuss it further. If you're interested, shoot me a PM. I say to PM me, because I don't want to bore everyone else in the forum with a long thread. wink

My one other critique: play more John Williams, please. smile

Hi Derulux,

Thanks so much for your kind and constructive feedback. I really appreciate you taking the time to watch some of my work and comment on it, and will type up a proper response in a PM smile
