Hi all-

I wanted to let you know what the tuner thought of the old (but new-to-us) Weber New York piano. He is a well regarded and recommended piano tech! So happy to report that he felt it was one of the best old pianos he had ever seen! He was amazed at the condition of the pins, hammers, board, everything, I think he was really surprised! The pitch was good and all was in line. He said there was no rust even on this metal bar (forgot the name.). So we are thrilled to have some years with this piano for our family?

He said they just don't make pianos like that any more. We talked about the times of the USA when this was built, it wasn't even World War I. Pianos were a big form of entertainment, no TV, something to really think about.

Still don't know the exact year but somewhere around 1899/1900, serial number 49708.

Here are the serial numbers I found for my Weber (Rochester NY). So yours was probably 1900 on the dot. It also seems likely based on the cabinet style - there is a good description of how the cabinets changed during this era here: http://www.pianobuyer.com/PDFarchive/2012_UprightCabinetStyles.pdf

Do you have any pictures of the inside? I am beginning my own Weber adventure (I think you posted in the thread) and it would be interesting to compare.

Hi there,

Just saw your post- I have the same style Weber, slightly older than yours, serial number 40786 from about 1894. My piano tech was also really surprised at how great of condition it was on the inside. I've got two old uprights and have to get rid of one of them, so struggling with that decision!
