Just some observations about craigslist postings:
- A "players" piano is not the same as a player piano.
- A grand piano is a horizontal piano only, unless you use the old term 'upright grand' or if the brand name of the piano is "Grand" (in which case it should be capitalized).
- If you write "great deal" it's a dead giveaway that you're trying to get more for your piano than it is worth.
- Small digital keyboards with unweighted keys are not pianos.
- Looking online for fully restored pianos that look distantly like, and share a brand name with, the old junker you are selling is not a substitute for an appraisal. (Or more succinctly: your landfill piano is not 'worth 15,000 dollars with just a little work').
- "Kawaii" is not a maker of pianos (or even an island chain).

Gez, Here's one that, I'm sad to say, you could only find in Las Vegas. Getting dizzy just looking at it. http://lasvegas.craigslist.org/msg/2923264669.html

Any sense of style I may have is telling me I should be running the other way but there's a little part of me that is screaming "OMG that is AWESOME!!!" Luckily I can usually ignore that little part long enough to prevent me from actually ending up with something like this in my living room.

Luckily I can usually ignore that little part long enough to prevent me from actually ending up with something like this in my living room. I know a house where that piano might slightly fit. The shape and swirls of the black on that piano upholstery EXACTLY match a decorative wrought iron fireplace grate and staircase railing at a friend's house. However, the house has mostly wood panelling, stone floors, and a very "earthy" feel, so the piano would still look completely out of place. Maybe if someone had a pet white tiger, the piano could match that? It's legal to have a pet tiger in some US states, and anyone who owns one may be crazy enough to fall in love with that piano.

I was asked to play for a wedding ceremony recently. Most weddings I've played for had a Pipe Organ - though I've done some on piano. I asked what instrument was available. I was told an electric piano (big groan to one-self). I agreed, as it was a friend of a friend. Closer to the wedding, I wanted to have a look at the "electric piano", and rang the person who could open up the small Church for me.
I was told that I'd be really pleased with the "keyboard". I groaned louder to myself. I asked could she describe it.
She said "Oh, it's a STANDARD KEYBOARD. It's got 44 notes".
So started the search for another instrument - which ended up being a borrowed electric piano.

Right now on the San Diego CL site, these two are for sale: 1908 Wellington Upright 1908 Wellington Upright I think just to have two identical 104 year-old pianos in the same room would be cool enough to pick them up...

http://portland.craigslist.org/clc/msg/3242990910.html1918 Player Piano Gulbransen-Dickinson Co. MUST SELL - $4500 (Dallas) Date: 2012-09-07, 2:22PM PDT Reply to this post wn6mh-3242990910@sale.craigslist.org [Errors when replying to ads?] Asking $4,500 OBO for a 1918 Gulbransen-Dickinson Co. upright player piano. Sold by the Ellas Marx Music Co. in Sacramento CA. Serial # 123913 this is a beautiful mahagony piano. I inharited it in 1997 and was appraised at 8K. Was told if the bellows were restored it would be worth 14K-16K. These old piano bellows were made out of cloth so they will naturally deteriorate over time. Piano sounds like it still plays very well. I do not play so I do not know if it is out of tune. Was told these old pianos if placed on an inside wall they do not have to be tuned. Gulbransen-Dickinson was well known for their exceptional quality pianos and player pianos. This piano has been in my family since 1935 and has been well cared for and loved. Unfortunately MUST SELL!! Comes with bench and 4 rolls of player music 3 of which are still in their box and one is in the piano.

It's true that they don't have to be tuned, particularly if they are not played.

Well, of course. He sent to the Lexington company to get the value about it, and got a response. It must be a piano that can raise the dead!

They differ in several ways, but some of the case components may have come from the same source.

Maybe it's the Halloween season influencing my perception, but this thing looks like it was built by a casket manufacturer.

Pianos like that were fairly common. It probably is not as old as they claim.
