Is the RX-7 Kawai grand an improvement over the GS-70? I found a dealer that is selling a GS-70 that is purportedly in excellent condition (built in 1985), but I don't know much about the older model Kawai grands and how they differ in quality versus the new models, other than the "Millenium Action" technology of the RX series.

Any input from experienced Kawai owners or techs would be helpful. Thanks. \:\)

"Technologically" the RX 7 piano would have advances in design and improvements over the older GS-70 model. The RX series are a more recent line starting, I believe, in the mid 90s. The Kawai website has a lot of promotional information about the RX series.
However the GS-70 model is described from various internet sources, as an excellent, well constructed, quality piano.
It would certainly be worth investigating.
Our Kawai experts on the forum may be able to provide more helpful information.

Good luck!
Robert.

I am looking at a GS70 also. Can you tell me the asking price of the one you are looking at and maybe something about the condition; what finish is it, etc? Thanks.

So far as the materials and craftmanships are concerned, GS-series are better than KG or RX-series which were/are Kawai's lowest-end series.
So far as the scale design and action parts' materials are concerned, RX-series is moderner than GS-series.

Masaki, the RX is the current equivalent to the GS models in terms of materials and performance quality. The RX pianos are substantially upgraded from the KG models, although they share some design features.

HDreamt, the GS-70 was a popular pianos for studio and serious musician's use. Have the piano checked by a technician, and pay attention to the tonal sustain in the mid-treble octaves (around note C6 or so). Most are fine, but sometimes they get kind of dead in that area.

The RX-7 is a larger piano, and is in my opinion a much more expressive instrument, with more dynamic range and a better action.
