I'm back as "TomTomasino," and it would be nice to think that some may have missed me. Maybe not. If you haven't, you needn't tell me.

At any rate, I was gone because of a bad hard drive and a new computer and inexplicable browser and re-registration issues. So I'm back with a new computer, a new registration--thus, TomTomasino--and a different browser. I won't tell the sorry tale, as it makes me red in the face with frustration just to think about it.

Anyway, "TomTomasino" is the same old quarrelsome tomasino of legend and lore. I'm not sure what I'll be using as a nome de guerre when I sign off.

While gone from Piano Forum I've immersed myself in the on-going "lock out" of the Minnesota Orchestra, and to some extent, the SPCO as well--the St. Paul Chamber Orchestra. Both ensembles have been locked out by their boards since October. It's my estimation that the Minnesota will be locked out until Fall. The SPCO? Perhaps earlier, but not soon.

I've been to all three "lock out concerts," and to a fair number of public meetings and get togethers as well, and have many new local friends who are musical enthusiasts. A silver lining, for sure, but it doesn't make up for these two great orchestras missing an entire season.

I've also been practicing piano, of late, a two movement sonata by Janacek entitled "1905."

TomTomasino,
aka tomasino

....about that piece (I imagine you know about this but probably hardly anybody else does -- I sure didn't):

(from wiki)
"....Janáček also wrote a third movement, a funeral march, which he cut out and burned shortly before the first public performance of the piece in 1906. He was not satisfied with the rest of the composition either and later tossed out the manuscript of the two remaining movements into the river Vltava. He later commented with regret about his impulsive action: "And it floated along on the water that day, like white swans".[4] The composition remained lost until 1924 (the year of Janáček’s seventieth birthday), when Tučková [the pianist who first performed it] announced that she owned a copy...."

Moral: We musicians are picky.

Moral #2: Never throw anything out. ha

Welcome back. [sarcasm] I had to stop by and say that I'm telling you I didn't miss you. In fact, I didn't miss you so much, I opened this thread upon reading that you were back just to tell you. [/sarcasm] wink
