I'm 16 and looking to buy a new digital piano. At the moment my options are; yamaha p105 for $900, yamaha p35 $540, Korg sp170s $569,casio cdp120 $599 or casio privia px735 $899. I was wondering if there is much difference between the two yamahas and if so if it's worth spending more money for the dearer one or whether I should just get the priviapx735? If I want the privia I have to get it as soon as possible because there is only one in the shop. Which would you reccomend for the price? (remember this is australian dollars)Or if you have any other suggestions. Thanks

you'll get more for your money getting casio privia. I wouldn't bother with korg here. Read here about yamaha P105 versus casio privia PX150: http://azpianonews.blogspot.com/2012/07/review-yamaha-p105-digital-piano-very.htmlAuthor is talking about PX150/PX350 but "the PX750 is the same piano as the new PX150 portable model as far as key action and functions except that the PX750 projects the piano sound in a much better way through upgraded speakers producing a fuller, more resonate piano tone." Anyway PX privias are superior to yamaha P105. p.s. looks like PX735 is discontinued.

Check on the reference - he's a casio dealer and his information is very slanted IMHO. That's a trouble with many web resources - not reviewed by peers or anyone else. Play them both and select which one does best for you.

Wow, that's quite a difference between the P35 and P105. Here, the P35 is 25% less the P105.
Describe how you intend to use them? Portable or stationary? Just piano or for other features? Primarily through the speakers or headphones? Do you foresee needing more than one pedal?
The PX-735 is at the end of its run. I don't know what typical prices for that model are in Oz to offer that type of advice. The next in that series is the PX-750 and a feature-laden PX-780.

Out of curiosity, does anyone know how the PX-780 compares with the PX-850? Does it use the same key design and sound chip? The 850 is supposed to be their "flagship" but the 780 looks like it's a lot more versatile.
Regarding how unbiased the azpianonews guy (Tim Praskins) is I don't know. I'd love to read more reviews on the products but there isn't a whole lot out there. At least at the moment. And nobody seems to have decent supply in to test the products themselves. My local piano store isn't carrying DPs anymore.

Stationary (in my room) and i'll probably have to use headphones a fair bit but still mainly without them. Pedals, may be tricky but as long as I have one I should be fine. Thank so far guys I'm thinking either casio or yamaha but I think i'll probably have to go and try a few out in the shops

My local piano store isn't carrying DPs anymore. 90% of Tim's reviews contain some sort of connotation that "The Yamaha is good but for an even better value the Casio XX XXX has XXXX better than the Yamaha." To me the PX780 looks to have the soundset of the PX350 while the PX850 has some more detailed parameters such as hammer response I think and lid position.
