First off, I am new to playing and new to digital pianos. But I have to ask since I really don't have a frame of reference. Anyone with the Yamaha P-155, what does your b-flat below middle C sound like? For me, it is a high pitched, tinny sound. It stands out while playing. Does anyone else have a similar experience?

I really came across this issue while working on this piece (measures 10 & 12):

Of course, this could be my inexperience. Also, I do realize that digital pianos have their issues and this one is not near the top of the line. I just had to ask to satisfy my inner burning curiosity.

Thank you.

There have been threads in the past about imperfections with certain notes on the P155. I don't know if it includes the one you are hearing. I think, that perhaps the P155 was not built on 88 note samples.

You can try a few things, factory reset, options to change the sound, different voice, test with and without headphones, transpose the keyboard and see if it stays with the key or the note. Finally try another one in the store.

Chances are though, it's the sampling stretch or interpolation process. See also the DPBSD report for the P155.

That's right, the P155 doesn't sample every key and some notes do stand out as being a little different. The CP33 is the same, although that has a three layer sample (P155 has four).

I think even the cheapest DP`s (or at least some of `em) have 88 note samples and even striking volume samples. Plus "soundboard resonance" built into the loud pedal. . . ya get a lot for yer money these days.

Not sure if the sound is any better overall mind . . .

No, the vast majority are stretched. For example, the P-155 uses 30 samples to cover 88 keys (at MIDI velocity 63).

True that most have multiple velocity layers. But few do sympathetic resonance very well if at all, and to me this is a big part of realistic AP simulation. Overall I'd say we generally get very little DP for our hard-earned money, certainly less than we might reasonably expect in 2013.

Thank you for the replies. I love the Yamaha P-155!

I did transpose the keyboard and the sound followed. But my wife thinks I'm crazy, she doesn't really hear anything our of sorts. So, it's probably me! I do have really good hearing, so it's most likely my quirkiness.
