I am looking for a portable stand and I want to hear your opinions on this one. I am looking for a stand that is reasonably priced and is sturdy. I think this one fits the description. It is $99 in Canada (although I do see it selling for $75 in the states (could I possibly bargain them down on this?)).

Number one priority is that it is stable. How stable I will have to decide upon, I know a portable stand will never be as stable as a fixed stand. I want to hear your experience on this stand, as well as others you think I might be interested in.

Number two, there is 100% leg room. I will not accept the least bit of cramping.

Number three is the price, I think $100 is reasonable, has anyone ever bargained down the price of a stand? If so, how did it go?

Number four, suggest some other alternative stands, I am always open to other options, lets see what you got.

I own the KS-18Z and I had a Roland RD-700NX. The stand is stead but it wobbles slightly laterally but you won't notice it very much. Overall, it's a tough stand with a good price.

forget it, im not going to waste my money on it, what the heck is the point if there isn't even a single company that can product a non-wobbly keyboard stand, it really doesn't take a genius to make one, there is no way i am giving my money away for an inferior product it will just send the wrong message to these companies, that mediocrity is acceptable, well it is not and thats final.

For wobbly-free playing, I would recommend a K&M table stand.

K&M tables are rick solid as are the ws8550 table stands

K&M stands are typically more expensive than onstage stands.

I see the legs appear to be extendible, do they wobble if you push down hard on the keys (when the keyboard is on the stand)?

No, not that I am aware of.
However, I don't think I have the legs extended beyond the 'original' position as I always sit down to play.

I had a band practise yesterday evening and lamented the cheap, low quality keyboard stand provided in the practise room. It was a horrible X-stand, with a latch in the middle, locking the leg angle/height in position. However the latch had worn away and would slip when applying any pressure (I tested the stand before placing my Nord on top), so had to ask the owner for a spanner with which to tighten the screw. Once tightened it held firm, but my feet kept getting trapped in the 'X' and my pedals would get lost, etc.

Horrible, horrible things.

I see it doesn't appear to have any rubber pads on the top of the stand, will the keyboard slip around?

There are holes in the top frame. I adjusted the width of the stand so that these are aligned with the Electro's rubber feet. The board sits on top, the rubber feet slot into position, and the board doesn't move.

The onstage stand does have holes, did you mean the onstage stand?:



The onstage stand is less than half the price of the k&m stand.

It doesn't seem very wide, can you play the ends of a 88 key piano on it without it wiggling?

In other words, this model allows the width to be adjusted, as evident from the two thumbscrews on the underside.

Then how is it any different than the onstage stand I just posted which also allows for width adjustment, which means in theory the K&M stand you posted would be as wobbly as the onstage stand (if it is even wobbly at all, I don't know since I have trouble finding a local store that carries it). Note the onstage stand is about half the price of the K&M stand if I buy it online.

adak, I'm afraid I do not have any experience with the OnStage stand - you asked me about the K&M stand and I provided the necessary information.

I'm sure either stand will be fine for your intended purpose.

I am using the Roland KS-G8 for my RD-700NX and it is very solid and I think it looks great too. I paid around $200 for it. But I only use it at home so I can't comment on using it for gigs. The stand is intended for gigs it is just that I am not that good of a piano player...

I use the onstage stand, ordered it from Amazon and it does not wobble. I play classical music so a regular x-stand won't do the trick - always wobbles! This stand, however, works perfectly. I have never needed to line up the holes with the rubber feet, as it won't slide. The weight of the keyboard/DP is enough to keep it down, and when you play there's not much horizontal pressure as there is vertical.

Do you got any pictures of your digital piano setup with the stand?

and how high is the stand only, at the lowest setting?

Adak, answer to your original question is YES. I got the KS 18 z stand yesterday for my new Nord piano and I'm really happy with it. Guy in the music shop said they were selling a lot of them to people with many different stage pianos. It's really sturdy, completely adjustable by width and height. Plenty of leg space. Quite subtle really, unlike that other Roland stand! Legs and arms fold into the frame, so it becomes like a kind of metal square when folded down if you know what I mean. Hope this helps.
