Casio Previa PX-850 Lid

I have the Casio PX-850. Before I made the purchase, I noticed the keyboard slide out cover could actually block the speakers from the top lid. At the time I thought the lid was just a gimmick and bought the PX-850 anyway.
Now that I have spent sometime with the PX-850 at home, I noticed the two piece slide out cover actually slides down toward the speaker, therefore directing 1/2 the sound toward the front, and 1/2 toward the top lid. Very nice. :-)
I also discovered there is a lid position detection switch. Could anyone explain what the detection switch does and its relation to the Casio's "lid simulator" settings?

The button is a "LID SIMULATOR" switch. Let me clarify.
Separately the PX-850 features "LID SIMULATION". This changes the sound of our piano to simulate different positions of the lid on a grand piano.
Hi Mike! Thank you for the quick reply and clarification on the proper terms! I appreciate it. It this the button under the lid you are referring to as the "LID SIMULATOR" switch? Does it correspond to one of the 4 settings of the "LID SIMULATION"? Best regards,

Mike, that was a great explanation. I don't think it had been detailed so neatly like that before around here!

Sorry Mike but the design is awful... I mean where are we going to put our piles of loose leaf sheet music with this function?

I believe the AP650M has this function too. It`s got a million instruments in there and . . .a 17 track recorder! Suddenly I`m interested. I`ve been informed by Casio that the nearest dealer to me is Amazon, Argos or Ebay .. . Buy, but you can`t try!

Essentially a PX-350 in a different cabinet with an enhanced sound system, lid simulator, 256 poly, and string resonance.

Mike, What is Casio calling release velocity? Is that the return of the keys or is it some kind of hammer simulation? Does the 5S have this also? Unrelated to this thread, but is the pedal bar on the PX-780 optional?. The specs say it comes with the SP-3.

Unrelated to this thread, but is the pedal bar on the PX-780 optional?. The specs say it comes with the SP-3. The PX-780 copy is unfortunately still wrong. I'll try to get that fixed today. It comes with a 3 pedal system. Models such as the AP-650, PX-850 and the PX-5S have release velocity. This means the key speed is not only measured as you press a key but also as you release it. The release velocity will determine how staccato or legato a note is played because it is simulating how quickly the damper is returning to the string.

How come some people type "Previa" instead of "Privia? I see Casio "Privia" on the main Casio website.

How come some people type "previa" instead of "privia? The Previa is a Toyota minivan. The "Privia" is a Casio piano. I myself buy Honda.
