I own a RD700NX and its a great keyboard, though I would like to see a better user interface, the actual keyboard and sounds are top quality. I now see its got a little brother the VR-09
I took a look at this in a shop. The build seems pretty similar, though its lighter to carry. I wonder what is missing under the hood? Seems an interesting keyboard for the budget conscious (and the weight conscious).
what are people's opinions RD versus VR-09?

The comparison is a little "apples and oranges" in my opinion. The VR-09 is more of a challenge to the Nord Electro/Stage at the Rolls-Royce end, and the Casio XW-P1 at the Skoda, bargain basement end. I have one on order and will use it as a lightweight, second-tier board for organ and synth duties, mainly. The inclusion of "drawbars," easy switching between modes, and reasonable sound quality at a sensible price sealed the deal for me. It will also make a handy rehearsal board.
The RD-700NX has SN piano and EP sounds, a top-quality weighted action and 88 keys. If I could manage its 55lbs, I'd love to have one. The VR-09 has SN organs (whatever that means), standard piano and EP samples, a "cheap" action and 61 keys. It weighs next to nothing. They are aimed at entirely different market segments.
Since you've had a chance to play the VR-09, I'd love to hear your opinion of its sounds.

Zero One has a proper weighted action ...the other is a unweighted organ type thingo ... apples and oranges.
