I had to look up Edward Gorey. I didn't know his name, even though I've seen his cartoons. To be fair, his output probably translates into a Google Doodle better that Chopin's would.

I do love these cartoons. I follow them on Facebook. Some are stumpers, but they are usually quite funny. The guys did one about the Etude in Thirds a month or so ago that was perfect for anybody who ever tried to play that piece.

I thought so too, but according to Wiki:

The parish baptismal record, discovered in 1892, gives his birthday as 22 February 1810, but a date one week later, 1 March, was stated by the composer and his family as his birthday; according to Chopin in a letter of 16 January 1833 to the chairman of the Polish Literary Society in Paris, he was "born 1 March 1810 at the village of ┼╗elazowa Wola in the Province of Mazowsze."

I agree. Let's celebrate it twice! I usually celebrate it in March because I am a March kid too, but really, he deserves to be celebrated twice.

I've forgotten what Google commemorated on March 1, 2010 (Chopin's 100th) but it wasn't Chopin. I suspect the Google Gurus work at going off the beaten path with their commemorations.
