Hi all
I have come across a Baldwin baby Grand about 5'1" which had a keyboard shift lever which was broken in two. I looked all over the piano trying to find a serial number or any kind of marking but was unable to locate anything. I would like to find a replacement but not knowing exactly which model Baldwin this is I am not sure how to go about it. any suggestions? The other question I want to ask is has anyone ever welded one of these levers and were the results satisfactory? I'm new to the Seattle area and do not know my way around as far as shops or suppliers in the area yet.

Can you post a picture of the lever? Also, if you cant find the serial number, call gibson guitars. They bought baldwin a while back and may be able to help get the #.

I did send Gibson an email but got no reply. I can call them next week. I don't post here often and I have never posted a pic. Can't see the file manager on full reply screen.

The cheapest and quickest route would be to have the pieces brazed by someone who does casting repairs to engine blocks and marine engine blocks.

About $35-40 dollars and you are ready to install.

I agree that welding would be quick, I was just wondering if anyone has done this before and how well the weld held up. But yes that seems to be the route I will take. Thanks

I purchase one from Apsco years ago. The configuration was backwards, so I had to cut the length and reverse the tab.

Had it brazed by a shop that repairs engine blocks. Never had a problem; it is the same way that pedals are brazed today.

Also try to determine WHY it broke. Some of these small Baldwin grands had pedal lyre screws that would hit the action frame, particularly if longer screws were tried in an effort to get the lyre tighter.
