Now that's good news, your exile in the desert is finally over! When do you start? I hope that you will come back from time to time, bump this thread back up and let us know how things are going. It might even be useful to you, as a way to mark your developement.

So, good luck!

Best wishes, Desert. The commencement of a new teacher/student studio music relationship is exciting, especially when it has been mutually chosen by the partners. May this one flourish! (And don't ever tell us her age.)

So students can be and are of any age but teachers must be a certain age reardless of their experience or education to teach adults whom I presume are over the age of 21. No wonder adult learners have having a difficult time finding a teacher with that advice.

Great thread smile

"A teacher who can identify what skills I'm missing, and what present habits are blocking me from playing better, and who has a plan on how to get me there. If it's mainly through pieces, fine. Just make sure those pieces are geared toward my learning needs, rather than my tastes."

pretty much exactly what I'm looking for.

I also know I need some technical and theory work since I believe that's what's holding me back. I haven't taken lessons in about 12 years. I also had a 6 year break from the piano as I had to leave my old one behind when I moved.

I definitely would not want the teacher to give me pieces based on what "turns me on" as when I was last in lessons my teacher then (who was my age lol) got me playing numerous pieces I'd never have picked on my own.

Looking in Calgary though most of the ads I see for piano teachers are geared towards children.
