I saw a used GA1 recently in a store. I've tried doing some research but the only model that came up was G1. I'm wondering if there's any difference and is GA1 or G1 supposed to be the same or similar to the C1?

The GA1 is a discontinued model, as far as I know. It is renowned for it's terrible low tenor /bass transition. At issue is the drop off in tension of the lowest 7 or 8 notes on the long bridge. It is hard to make sound in tune, impossible to keep in tune and tonally challenged. The GB1 was the revised version and changed the scaling somewhat to attenuate the problems. I may have the wrong model designation here.

The G1 is a somewhat larger piano. The GC1 is the newer version of the G1.

Hopefully I got most of the information correct though I am certainly willing to be corrected.

Most piano makers that have delved into the sub 5' world have made the smaller product, (I am not willing to call most of them "pianos") with the soul purpose of making an instrument that meets a price point. Music is rather far down in the rankings as a purpose for making some of these really small instruments. At least with Yamaha, the quality was never really an issue. Their build standards, even on their smaller models has always been adequate. Design is another story.

IN the long run, I would be happy if all my tuning customers had Yamahas. They will never be on the top of my list musically, but they are certainly reliable and predictable with better than average quality control.

With all due respect, this is slightly outdated information.

There are very well small grands on the market today that make valid, even beautiful sounding instruments.

In today's varied market it's simply no longer possible to refer to one single maker and then extrapolate from their own line up of models the state of the art for the entire industry.
