Hi there,
My sister who lives in Finland plans to move to Helsinki. Unfortunately, there won't be enough place to put her Yamaha CLP-380 in the house she's going to rent so that she will have to store it somewhere else until she finds a bigger house. Chances are high the facility where the piano is going to stay for the next year are not heated so that the piano will be exposed to the extreme Finish cold. In Oulu, where she lives now, temperatures of -30C are not unknown, I know Helsinki is a bit better in this regard but anyway - is it safe to put the piano in an unheated room for the next year? Will the internal components be damaged because of the cold? I couldn't find any information regarding the matter in the manual.

Of course, she won't play the piano and the piano itself won't be plugged in in the electricity system during that period.

Regards,
Troll

Some LCD's ("liquid-crystal displays") can be damaged by extremely low temperatures. The liquid freezes . . .

Yamaha should know if there's a problem.

As far as I know, nothing else should be affected by the cold.

The keys are lubricated with a thick grease. Will that survive extreme cold? I do not know.

I would not hesitate if the piano were to be stored at temperatures slightly below 0 C. But -30 C leaves me feeling uncomfortable. I wouldn't do it.

@Troll,

Surely your sister can find some way in which to make space for the CLP-380 in this rental?

It's not a very big piano as it could sit right in the middle of a room if necessary and just put everything else around it.

This is possible to do if you plan accordingly.

Also, try a hallway, or, kitchen area.

Guys, thanks for your replies. In the end, she decided to keep the piano in her new home. Of course, she can sell it and buy the new model when the time comes butI guess she is quite like me, if I had to leave the planet and take only one thing with me it would be the piano.

Have a nice weekend.
