My piano has a couple of keys that squeak. One always squeaks, and there are two others that do sometimes.

It sounds like it is coming from below the key itself. They don't stick, and aside from the squeak, they sound fine.

I tried running an emery board between the keys to see if that helped but it didn't do anything.

Is there any thing that I can do? It isn't due for tuning for several months, and this is really bugging me.

Do you know how to take a key out of the piano? Could be the keypins need to be polished/lubed.
You could start with some metal polish like Flitz. Take off the punchings. Don't loose them or get them mixed up. Not sure what a suitable Home Depot type lube would be. We techs would use Teflon or Protek or MClube.

There are lots of potential sources for this kind of noise. Call your technician and see if he/she could maybe stop by when in the area. The charge shouldn't be as high as a full tuning.

No, I don't know how to take the keys out, although I'm pretty handy. I was hoping it was something that might be accessible without doing that.

I think what I'll do it call the technician and then watch how it's done. Music aside, pianos are amazing machines and I love watching how all the parts move when the cabinet is off.

I've had this piano about 7 months and before I purchased it, I think it had sat untouched for a long time - probably several years, and so it has had some oddities that seem to come and go. I kept waiting for this squeak to work itself out but it doesn't seem like it's going to go away on its own, sorry to say.

Thanks for the quick response!
