I posted several days ago and received some helpful advice on finding a local dealer to contact; however, I have not heard anything. I have a Sohmer and Son baby grand circa 1884 that I inherited. I was told it was very valuable as it was one of only ten of this particular model ever manufactured. It was refurbished ten years ago but has not been since. I am trying to determine the best way to sell it for optimal value. Does anyone have any recommendations? I live in South/Central Florida. Many thanks.

My guess is something like this is more intended for the antique collector's market than for someone just looking for a piano. You may want to get an antique dealer to appraise is rather than a piano technician to help you determine a good selling price.

Good advice...

It would be difficult for our experts to give you more specific advice without more specific information/photos or looking at the piano in person.

If you really think it is exceptionally rare and valuable, I would follow Morodiene's advice and find a qualified appraiser. Of course, their advice will not be free... smile

I doubt that there would be any special value because there were only a few made, even if you could confirm that. Buyers will be assessing it as a piano.

The best way to sell it for maximum value is privately, probably through Craigslist. But if I were to advise a buyer, I would say to approach it cautiously, if at all.
