Not from a movie, but a television series: Perfect Strangers, when they moved a studio piano to the 17th floor of an apartment building. One of the funniest scenes ever recorded on camera!

I love the scene in The Legend of 1900 when the piano player unlocks the wheels on the dolly during a big storm -- he and the trumpet player then roll around the ballroom while he plays as a cure for the trumpet player's seasickness.

The old Laurel and Hardy piano-moving short was pretty good, too. \:\)

Peter Sellers in "A Shot In The Dark"

stolen from a poster on a movie message board:
 Quote:
Speaking of the sublime Peter Sellers: how about that scene in "A Shot in the Dark" where, after the stuck-gloved, chain-and-mace weilding Cluseau accidentally demolishes a grand piano; the bourgoise, high-falutin' lady exclaims: "Inspector, that was a priceless Steinway!" To which the nonplused, self-logically assured detective replies: "Not anymore."

I know it's very depressing, but the scene in "The Pianist" where Spilzmann sits down in the freezing cold to play the Chopin G minor ballade for the German officer after not having played for years. I know it's a stretch to believe he could have done that, but still it really moved me.

That is actually my favorite piano scene in any film. Well written and photographed. Good piece and I liked that the piano was not perfectly in tune. The music bridging that abysmal social chasm between them creating a bond between strangers who might have been enemies is hard to beat for illustrating the value of the art of playing.

Sellers played a egotistical concert pianist in "The World of Henry Orient", made in the 60s, probably.

In one funny scene he has two successive two handed trills in a concerto, the first maybe one octave apart and the second closer to three or four octaves apart. Just simple little tinkles while the orchestra played the theme. He played the first with his arms crossed...no big deal, just looked kinda weird. Then he also proceeded to play the SECOND (the 4 octave stretch )with his arms STILL crossed . Typical Sellers send-up.

I haven't decided my favorite though. Baker Boys was good. The Eddy Duchin Story with Tyrone Power interested me because I read somewhere that Power actually did the playing in that movie, though I don't know if that is true.

How about in Amadeus, when Mozart plays Salieri's welcome march after only one hearing, and then improves it right in front of him! "Grazie, Senor!"

Amadeus...by far the best movie ever. "And then it just kind of repeats, right?" (Mozart...a little later in the scene)

The Competition is, in my opinion, a phenominal piano related movie.

It is one of my all time favorites to be precise.

This thread reminds me of a movie I saw decades ago on TV and have never seen again (probably because it's not a very good movie.) I have no idea of the title but it is about a female piano student who is a protege of a famous conductor who is preparing her for her concert debut in which she is to play Rach 2. Anyone else ever see or hear of this movie? I have always remembered it because it was the first time I heard any part of the Rach 2.

Sophie's Choice, when Nathan (Kevin Kline) plays Schumann's "About Strange Lands and People" (Kenderszenen Op. 15 No. 1). Its a truely magical scene for three reasons:

1. A beautiful piece, one of my favorites.
2. Perfect timing. Listen to the rhythm of Sophie's voice as she narrates over the music.
3. A memorable twist, as Nathan spins the ending into a rowdy, six-handed "Swanee River" for Stingo's benefit.

One of my top 10 films of all time.

"The legend of 1900" when 1900 was duking it out--fictitiously--with Jelly Roll Morton.

Kind of spotty movie, but the music was just great! I think the composer was Enrico Morricone?? Cool Jazzical stuff...

Anyone remember the episode of "Mr. and Mrs. Smith" that ends with Scott Bakula's character playing a grand piano in a room that's otherwise pretty empty? I seem to remember the piano being something like a 7' Steinway, but maybe that's just wishful thinking. \:D Yes, Cap't Archer / Dr. Sam Beckett actually plays the piano.

I can't remember the name of this movie, but I saw it when I was a little kid in the earl sixties. It's about a kid who didn't want to practice the piano. I think it was written by Dr. Seuss, and it featured a piano with five thousand keys. does anybody know what I am talking about, or should I just go out and shovel snow?
