If a grand piano has a dampp chaser installed, how difficult is it to install the undercover? If it was an under the beams installation, would it be difficult to change it to a between the beams installation so the undercover fits?

Any idea of the cost of such a conversion would be great. I'm hoping that I wouldn't have to purchase any more equipment other than the undercover. Is that a true assumption?

Thanks.

Go to the Dampp-Chaser website and register as an installer and they will tell you how to install it.

Ideally the installation is always between beams, so there is probably a good reason why it was mounted below such as space limitations. As Jay said I would look at Dampp-Chasers website and find an installer close by and discus and possibly have them look at it.

In my experience, the undercover is easy to install, but scratches does not stay very well glued in/under the rim, (or on the tissue) and may need a few staples or pins after some time.

it is may be not very elegant if the tank is under the beam, but not so much noticed unless everyone sits on low seats near the piano. (I find it less bad looking with the undercover than without)

It makes the system fully effective anyway (as tested by a customer on a 2 years period and may be more, with recordings of HR under the C1 Yamaha and in its room - I can find a link to his graphs somewhere and the system fights well relatively large HR changes in his room.
He also recorded the electrical current use..

You should figure out why the installation is under the beams - is it a Mason or something? If there's no reason, then you could re-do it between the beams.

Apart from that, you might have to move the dehumidifier bars over a couple of inches to fit the undercover.

p.s. - Olek -agraffes and staples are two different things!

I did an under beam system undercover recently, using a Barnes undercover. Next time I use the undercover on an under beam installation, I will request the pattern have some material added in the width to accommodate the added protrusion.

I was able to get it to work, but would prefer not to stretch the fabric as tight as I needed to on that installation.

By the way, I see the undercover as essential in providing the conditions for an adequate micro-climate. I place a digital datalogger right near the humidistat for the 3 weeks between installation and the followup tuning, and the evidence is clear to me that the undercover keeps things more stable under there.

I live in Boston area. The climate is not piano friendly...so we really need'em here...the Damppchaser and undercover, that is.
