That is a lovely sound smile
But the look is not much different from the modern Clavinovas.
You can buy CLP-430 instead and wait till it gets old ha (in case you cannot find 990, I am just teasing).

@adak,

Thanks for the link above as it looks like a nice piano.

Extra note:

Have already purchased a CLP-990M as I am now making the arrangements for shipping at this time. Will post additional details, later.

@James,

Thanks, as I am not sure as to how long ago I started the search although I really didn't have any leads for a prospective seller until I received word here in the forum. So, it proves that it is a good thing to be a PW member.

Here are a few photos as I can post the ones sent from the seller:

I was very happy to be getting the mahogany finish model CLP-990M, as it has a distinguished appearance and the cabinet is in very nice condition.

And, note the interesting gray-colored speaker grill in picture # 4 as the speakers are front facing which is unique for a digital piano.

The matching bench and manuals are included, also.

Lovely looker. The speakers need moving downstairs and the music stand . . . .Can you stand it? Otherwise perfect. AND it`s got a sloping front!

Have just received the complete "Service Manual" for the CLP-990/CLP990M which comprises 7 PDF's including schematics for the circuits. There are some very interesting illustrations and graphics for all of the parts in the piano as well as keyboard maintenance/regulation tips.

Here are the keys and action parts in four pages - first two images are the graphics and the next two are the names/specs of the parts.

Note as to how the weights of the keys are given in the 3rd image:

4) http://imgur.com/Em6eh0N

Here is the "keyboard adjustment" section in five pages:

3) http://imgur.com/pb8k7nx

Any service tech shouldn't have any problems in doing routine adjustments with these detailed instructions.

The solid spruce wood keys with the hammer action and escapement make this a very unique digital.

Interesting stuff. This looks very similar to the Kawai wooden-key actions (and service manuals).

By the way, have you received your CLP-990 yet? I'm sure many here would be interested to hear your opinions compared to the Roland and Kawai instruments that you currently own.

Cheers,
James

I've owned my CLP990 for over 10 years now and have to say it still works like new and has not needed any work on it done after all these years and lots of playing. You'll definately enjoy the uniqueness of it and wonder why Yamaha abandoned clearly superior technology all those years later when they could have kept on enhancing this technology making it even better.

@Kona,

Yes, it appears that the CLP-990 was far ahead of its time in 2001 and still has specs to match (or, are better than) many digitals, today.

Extra note:

I do plan on making a recording with the default "Grand Piano 1" preset after the piano has arrived.

pv88: Might I impose upon you to offer up photos of your piano studio. I've lost count of the pianos you own, but I'm sure it's more than that of ANY individual I've ever known. Can we have a look??

I plan on having a "flagship" model from each of the major brands, i.e., Roland, Kawai, Yamaha, as the last digital will be the Clavinova CLP-990M.

1) Roland V-Piano
2) Kawai CA95
3) CLP-990M

My fourth digital is the Kawai EP3.

Three flagships, and, the above.

Envy!

Good point about the CLP900 regarding its flagship status. I've not had the pleasure of playing one. But everything I've read suggests that, despite its age, it's as good or better than any of the newer Clavinovas.
