Hello, all -

Just saw a Yamaha CLP 430 priced at $2300 that I loved. Problem is, it is a bit out of my price range.
I've seen a Casio PX750 on Amazon listed at $800 including stand, and have seen some positive reviews. Seems like the more I research, the more confused I am.
Does anyone have a recommendation for a solid beginner piano, or know of anyone with deals on a Yamaha? Trying to get something for recreational use for myself, and for my 9 year old to begin lessons.

If you are in the range of 1k, you could check out the Yamaha P155.

Thank you! I take it from your response that perhaps the Casio PX750 is not the way to go? I couldn't tell if the reviews that I've read were inflated by Casio dealers.

The Casio Privia PX pianos are pretty highly rated by members here - the hammer action keyboards are possibly the best quality you can get in that price range, and there are lots of sounds and facilities - so if you like the piano sounds, it'd be a good option.

Directly compare Casio PX350/750 etc with Yamaha p105,155 & ydp pianos if possible.

Before Christmas, I saw Yamaha CLP-430 here on sale for $1800+tax.

I would not buy a digital piano sight unseen, you may or may not like it, even if it gets positive reviews from others.

Quite right - you should try them first if at all possible - that's what I meant by 'directly compare'.

If your little girl is to learn, you don`t want a piano with other things on it. They`ll greatly distract. Just a thought . . . most have got organs and harpsichord anyway.

PS -- I did this, and ended up with a PX-350. Your decision may be different.

I wouldn't consider "extra sounds" a problem. You need the same skills to play most of the "instruments", as you do to play piano. The organ and harpsichord aren't touch-sensitive, but most of the rest of the "instruments" are.

I get a kick out of singing Handel arias to a harpsichord accompaniment!

Now, if she gets seduced by the rhythms and accompaniment patterns -- _that_ can be really dangerous! She might -- God forbid! -- become an arranger, rather than a pianist.
