Hi,

This is my first post. I am looking for a step up digital piano for my daughter. I would like a cabinet/furniture style piano. There is a Yamaha Clavinova CVP 59S for sale locally by a private seller. He is asking $975.

The seller acknowledges that it is a shot in the dark price as he does not know what they are worth either. How old are these pianos and are there other model numbers that are basically the same thing? I ask because I can't find any information on the 59S. What should this piano cost? Any downside with buying it?

Thank you in advance, any insight will help!

Don

Welcome to the forum.

This thread does not sing the praises of a rental 59S and suggests it dates from the mid-90's.

For roughly the same price you can get something a lot better, new. Albeit perhaps with less features.

You could offer a lot less, say $250, but even then I'm not sure it's worth it, unless the action is almost perfect, cabinet too, it sounds good to you and you want all the ensemble features.

Personally I would look elsewhere, but it does depend what your requirements are, and hopefully others will chip in who know more about this Yamaha line.

i would pass on that one. Look at the YDP-142 or YDP-161 (you can probably get a good price on 161 b/c 162 is replacing it) I think the 142 is a nice buy for about 1100 and it's an improved version of the 141.

here is a nice article I found that might be helpful: http://azpianonews.blogspot.com/2013/02/review-yamaha-ydp142-ydp162-ydps51.html

$1000 is a lot for such an old digital. shocked

If you really like it, make a counter offer
otherwise I would keep looking.

GOOD LUCK!

FYI, go to Yamaha Manual Library to get the manual for the CVP-59S (and all of the Clavinovas).

The appendix of these manuals include a MIDI Implementation Chart. For the CVP59S, it's dated April 1995.

What would be a good choice for a say $500ish used digital furniture digital piano with nicely weighted keys?
