'Morgenstemning' from Peer Gynt suite by Edvard Grieg.

Incidentally when I play or listen to the middle section of Brahms Rhapsody #1 I hear the main motive from 'Death of Åse'. Brahms knew Grieg so I wonder if he was influenced by this or vice versa.

I believe the Grieg preceded the Brahms by a few years...but I could be wrong Um...Ase's Death was once one of "those" pieces for me; the type you just listened to on a loop for days on end...shattering

After 'Morning Mood', 'In the Hall of the Mountain King' is my favorite movement from the suite - not least when the conductor (and orchestra) goes for broke......
But Solveig's Song is the loveliest moment in the complete work (incidental music).
