Teachers, if price is not a concern, which chair/ stool you think will improve piano teacher's posture, comfort and health in overall? (use your imagination to sit in those chairs)

Thanks

haha TLT, I'm glad it showed a picture of someone actually on it, because I couldn't work out what goes where! laugh

As for ezpiano's list, numbers 2 & 3 look just like something I have on my back porch, only it's a barbeque! laugh

FWIW, I sit on an adjustable piano bench, just like my students, as I am generally playing with them, illustrating something for them, or checking their hands, arms and posture from the side, so sitting on a comfortable chair is generally not an issue.

Now I know that this post was somewhat in jest, but my son in law has serious back issues and uses a chair very much like #1 for most of his daily work in the office.

My teacher tried the knee chair in TLT's post. She gave up on it quickly. I would sit on it while observing my son's lessons and I couldn't make peace with it either.

You can also just sit on a ball with no 'chair' around it and you can now get balls with little nubby feet that collapse when you sit on it but they keep the ball from rolling around when you are not sitting on it.

I'd guess that the best chair is the one that is best for whoever has to sit in it.

EZ, congratulations on heading in this decision-making direction. Each of these 4 chairs looks like it would be good for piano teaching.

I bought an expensive, good-on-the-back office chair years back, and it is still a pleasure to sit in hour after hour. Was worth every penny.

My only suggestion is that you read and reread the Amazon reviews of these 4 models. And make sure the chair won't roll much when you get up from it, because piano teachers are getting up from a chair over and over during a lesson, especially if you're teaching kids.

I've been considering buying one for a while, as I have been having back problems. My guitar teacher uses a kneel-chair for that very reason. I've found them comfortable for a short while, but never used one for long spells. I think it has to be adjusted to your leg length before it is going to be right.

I have a kneeling chair, one of the older Swedish style that were popular a few years back.

I don't like it for long periods, I feel kind of trapped in it. But at times my lower back is aching it gives quick relief, and I switch back and forth during the day.

I brought it into the office, and currently it's floating around, being used by whoever feels they need it most that day.
