Hello Fellow Teachers,
I've been teaching for a couple of years, and am finally holding my first recital for my students today! I'm sure all of you can understand the excitement (and slight nervousness as well!). I feel so lucky to have discovered this second career (used to be a pharmacist......piano is so much more fun).

For those of you that were at the MTNA convention, I'm going to open with the Persian improv piece that Forrest Kinney did at his talk. I'm having a very beginning student do it with me. For those of you that don't know what I'm talking about, you put a thin book in the lower bottom bass strings of the piano (not the very bottom bass strings, but the ones that are slightly underneath the bottom bass strings), and then a couple of long pencils on top of the strings in the upper registers. (You have to have a grand piano to do this). It creates an amazing sounding effect, that the kids just love!

In any case, I have learned a lot from this forum (as well as any other place I can find that talks about teaching piano) and am excited for today!
