My daughter has been playing piano for about four years now, and is making good progress. Her teacher's strength (and focus) is classical piano, and I do not want to disrupt that in any way. But my daughter also wants to learn other styles in addition to classical. Can you recommend any good books for her to learn?

She has been recently playing pieces such as rondo alla turca, Beethoven's Six variations on a theme by Paisiello, which should give you an idea of where she is skill-wise. Also I play rock & blues guitar, so I can help with the underlying music. But I know nothing about playing piano.

Any suggestions would be much appreciated. Thanks!

Keyboard Capers, by Rocherolle, has several stylistic pieces that aren't too difficult to pick up.

Rocherolle also has a book Boogie Bonanza which has quite a few fun pieces in it.

I'd recommend this book:

Recital Showstoppers, 10 Virtuosic Solos for Piano

I recently bought this book only for the "Bumble Boogie," a fun version of Rimsky-Korsakov's "Flight of the Bumblebee." It's a piece that I heard someone play back when I first began playing and always wondered what it was called, until I recently found it buried in the depths of the first few pages of this book.

It also has nine other jazzy/boogie-woogieish tunes inside and comes with a CD as well.

Hope this helps!

Thank you! I checked the Amazon reviews -- it seems to be the cat's meow.

Tim Richards' book is good, but it focuses more on the blues (which may actually be a good place to start).
