The article talks about "preparing for the creation of a 21st century Steinway Hall in Manhattan. Our Concert & Artist division is working on designs for a space that meets the needs of today's artists and customers just as the Steinway family conceived our current location nearly 100 years ago." So does this mean Steinway will move out of its current location but open a new one somewhere in Manhattan?

That's how I read it.

So much for heritage.

Heritage is one thing, but, as beautiful as it is, it is from another era. It could be off-putting to the contemporary shopper.

I think it's great that Steinway is moving forward, rather than being stuck in tradition.

Mind you, it's true that Steinway Hall in London haven't always been at Marylebone Lane, isn't it? and Bechstein moved into a new factory in the 90s, so heritage isn't always about staying in the same location, although I admit there is something about the thought of consistency of location.

One should mention that Steinway sold the building and land in 1958, continued occupancy as a tenant rather than a landlord, then repurchased the building in 1999. (Couldn't buy the land back for some reason.)

There is a lot of fine artwork in that building. Hopefully Steinway will remove that and use it in the new building.

I can't get out of my head the picture of a piano dealership that looks like an Apple Store. That includes the kids in polo shirts and ipads.
